There are fewer posts and fewer bumps in the b/s/t section recently. The administrators could quantify this with actual hard data, but it's very obvious just looking at the first page of the section that it's way down. I remember 4 years ago being annoyed that right after I bumped my thread someone else would bump there's 2 minutes later! This happened because of how packed the board used to be. That doesn't happen at all now.
In terms of prices, I held firm initially when I sold over 95% of my collection and made exactly what I wanted. Now that I have so little left, I hope leaving those old prices up doesn't scare people away. I hope they notice all the times in the thread: "make offer" or "best offer." Realistically, I'd sell almost all that stuff for 25% less than my asking price. People just have to offer what they think is fair.

This is in no ways meant to be a knock towards you, PP4S, but some of folks here are just tired of going in to the B/S/T area to find eBay prices. Some folks think they can ask the same price as eBay here and avoid fees....when truth be told, if "you're" going to ask eBay prices, then I'll just shop on eBay.
Now, as already noted, this isn't a knock on your or anyone in particular. Our BST area is chock full of great people selling great merchandise. Probably more importantly is the fact that the supply market has been very slow the past few years ever since the Retaliation delay. The collector base is in buy mode with money burning a hole in our pockets, while new product has been very slow in coming. Also, pre-25t Anniversary stuff is irrelevant to most of the collector base. It is a bridge product that lacks the classic appeal of ARAH and hasn't aged well against ME. For me, most of it wouldn't be worth the space it would take, even if you gave it to me.

So I guess the hobby is nearly completely dead at this point.

agreed with all the above. Another reason is the various fb groups. The collectors seem to abandon forums in favor of fb in general and not only the bst section.
I am a big fan of this thread. I had hundreds many transactions, (purchases, trades, sales) all positive without even a single problem. I have bought most of my collection from hisstank in very decent prices (in comparison with ebay or amazon) and I always recommend when other European collectors ask me where to buy gi joe. |
