Zero game by Meltzer was a good real.
Also, gotta second the Rucka stuff. Peter David has some good work out there as well.

The books are good. Read 'em all. They're surprisingly good.
Not complex or in-depth reads, but entertaining. What's "good" about them is you can see Rowling develop as a writer from #1 to #7, and see the tone of each book get "older". Can tell they were written to be read by people around the same age as Harry in each book. They grow with him.
