My Pop was in Nam, worked in intelligence most of the time. Would actually volunteer to go out on patrol, saw a lot of crazy things. They wanted to promote him pretty high but he decided to leave the army and take a stab at raising a bunch of lousy sons instead hah.
I got his dog tags hanging on my monitor. |

My grandfather was a tailgunner for the airforce in the south Pacific during WW2. His brother was killed in France during the war.

Dad was in Nam...grandpa was at the battle of the bulge in WW2...both great men.
Best story from my grandpa was that while on the boat over to europe, the boys were all shooting dice. The guys wouldnt let this one GI play because his dollar bills were all beat up and wrinkled. My grandpa traded his crisp dollar for this other GI's tattered bill and he kept it in his wallet until the day he died at the age of 94. I would love (and hate) to know what that dollar bill saw. Thanks to all the true GI Joes out there...without out their selfless work hard attitude, we'd all be up shit creek in todays times. Doc

That lone $1 bill has got to evoke a deeper meaning for your grandfather to keep it close to him for all these decades. Man. I know we all seen what a dollar bill looks like. May I be so rude as to kindly ask you to post a picture of that tattered $1 bill? That goes for the rest of you Tankers here in this thread; with your 60-year-old Hershey ration wrappers, silk vintage parachutes turned house-curtains, and all those other odd items! I'm certain just seeing the special uniqueness of such simplistic entities will all the more make these special stories visually come alive.

Both my grandpa's were in WWII. At least one was based in Okinawa. Not sure what ranks either one was.
