The roots for me are the Sunbow cartoon episodes. That is what links me to my childhood. Today, I have returned many many years later in building a MASS IMPERIAL GRAND ARMY!!! One that continues to multiple daily all because I love the appearance in troop building. It has nothing to do with "how many" I have, yet all to do with appearance in troop building when rallying them up. I love chain of command in creating rank structures and just plain building. Thats all.

I'm kind of an odd duck, its actually out of bad memories. My parents started getting me joes in 89, so I had the tail end of any really good productions, and more team specific gimmick based figures. I always wanted the guys from the shows, and hated when I got guys like Eco Warrior Ozone instead of Flint or something.
With 25th anny, I was able to get into it, get some great figures, and some guys I always wanted as a kid. Maybe too many, but oh well. |

He man had a great story concept. Prince Adams Father was the King, his mother was an Astronaut from Earth, Greyskull was a mystery, no one knew that the Prince was He man, and his sister was missing and working for the Horde. How can you not love that?

I don't know if there's anything behind my resurgent fascination with GI Joe beyond nostalgia. I stopped collecting/playing with GI Joes when I was around 10 or 11 years old, and it was only in late 2007/early 2008 that I started getting interested in them again. I think some of that nostalgia was spurred on by hitting 30 and the need to reconnect with my idealized, younger self.
