Toys are a luxury. If a collector can't afford to collect toys, he shouldn't collect toys. Heard of the term inflation? $1-$2 dollars may seem high for a completist or an army builder, but for the casual buyer, it's not too bad.

Static knees, elbows, hands, feet etc. I'm amazed that we were still seeing the figures at under 5 bucks. We've been getting highly articulated figures at a pretty decent price if you ask me. Would I like it cheaper. Sure. Everybody wants things cheaper. I just don't see it as being likely to occur. If the movie stuff tanks and there is a huge drop in demand afterwards, we may see a drop in price. But even then I doubt it. |

When Star Wars was relaunched in 1995 figures were around 5 bucks. That was 14 years ago. And they had 6 points of articulation.

True.
It's hard to tell what the profit margin is, but think about it, these are low priced items, so the profit margins can't be too high. If you look at Hasbro's profit margin for 2008, it's 7.63%. It's operating margin is 12.29%. So, to expand further, for every $1 of revenues by Hasbro, their profit margin is approximately 8 cents. The key to their profitability is selling in high volume. That doesn't look too bad (greedy) to me. The source of percentages presented: HAS: Key Statistics for HASBRO INC - Yahoo! Finance Quote:
that's the point, you don't know whether you are being overcharged, so how can you claim that you are. you don't know the production cost per unit, the wholesale price per unit, and the profit margin that retailers demand to make carrying the product worthwhile. what basis do you have for claiming to be over charged? and the price at Wal Mart 3 years ago doesn't cut it.

Here is a leaked stolen Chinese pallet thief picture of Sgt Charles Dickens, the Joes new literary specialist.
The good news is that he only costs $4.99!!!! For real, this is the kind of figure that $4.99 will buy you in 2009. Is this what you really want? PS-This figure actually retails for $11.99 |

Target sold Joes for 4.99 for several weeks in November. Considering all the crap coming out (repaints, repacks, wild bill, cc), $4.99 figs is the least Hasbro and retailers could do.
BTW, does anyone here think $8.44 is ridiculous for Marvel 3.75 figs. I bought Marvel icons (12 inch) Magneto and Dr Doom from Big Lots ($10) just a few months back. |

I just watched that a little while ago on DVR. That was the funniest episode I have seen in a while.
