If they are making a slaughter, then why is my stock stuck in the 20s? Have you seen their profit margin on their income statement?

its a rough estimation but these arent made in the US. They're outsourced to over seas companies were wages are very much at a low end so the cost from over seas manufacturing of these are not terrible expensives. I would wager perhaps 40 cents maybe 50cents at max. Either way hasbro still makes a slaughter off selling these to retailers who then make a slaughter off us by charging 7.99-10.99

I am a rep for several different toy lines and I know that this will not do a bit of good. The figures that you currently see on the toy shelves and pegs are required by a new law (signed in Nov of 08, first phase went into effect on Feb 10th) to be tested very aggressively for lead and phthalates. Before this bill was signed manufacturers could simply test the paint used on the figures now they need to take enough of a paint sample from each figure to actually test. In some cases this can take several hundred figures (or vehicles). This has to be done not once or twice but at least three times. In some cases the product can be stopped at the docks before distribution in order to test. This has lead to a huge jump in prices of anywhere from 12% to 30%. Now for the bad news this law has TWO more deadlines that have to be met by manufacturers the next one being in August of this year and October of next.
Long story short...prices are not going down anytime soon. THANK YOU BIG BLOTTED GOVERNMENT! |

So does Master Collector get around these lead testing requirements by labeling it as an adult collectible not intending for children?

Yes, these tests are for products intended for kids 12 and younger. That is also why they can have sharp and pointed items in their line like metal swords.

the mocking is because some of us live in reality and don't make uneducated assumptions that simply because a toy was sold at a single store 3 years ago for roughly $4.99 that that is all it should cost today. nobody is saying we like higher prices, but not one person advocating that that is all they should cost has provided one shred of evidence that any price over $4.99 is inflated and it is thus reasonable to expect such a low price. arbitrarily championing that amount and then claiming that amount to be based on empirical factors when it is simply made up to is at best unreasonable, and if you are going to behave unreasonably expect to be mocked for it.

Lets just keep trying...it doesn't hurt.
To just fall down and take is not right. To bring up the fact that yes toy companies have to test their toys is a must. However, the toy companies should pay that not us. I am sick and tired of these big corporations nickel and dimming everyone for something they should be doing from the start. So I vote with my dollars and started a petition. I would like to thank you all for speaking on the matter and a special thank you for those who have voted.

So you no longer buy Joes then? No one likes higher prices. I think $7.99 is pushing it, and wouldn't be happy if they went higher. I'd love to see 'em around $6.50 (which is what they were when I started buying, only time I saw 'em at $4.99 was when Target had the sale). Wal-Mart has 'em at $6.84, Toys 'r Us has 'em at $7.99. The Marvel and Wolverine:Origins (Wal-Mart doesn't have 'em) at Toys r' Us are at $7.99 and I think those should be cheaper because I don't think they're anywhere near the same quality as the Joes. You want to start a petition to get the Joes at a reasonable price, $6.50, then I'll happily sign that and there won't be any mocking. $4.99 is unreasonable, Hasbro will take one look at that and laugh their asses off and throw it away. You want to make a statement, do it with money and DON'T BUY ANYTHING!! Don't buy from anywhere online. Don't buy from the stores. When nothing sells, Hasbro will then get the message and work with the retailers to get the prices back down to where things were selling. So you want to redo the petition with a more reasonable goal, then I'd be all for it. But asking $4.99 is just ridiculous. Edit: So I was at Toys 'r Us last night and looking at the Joes. I had to think about buying some at $7.99, where at $6.84 I just grab 'em, and almost didn't get 'em. So to me, $7.99 is pushing it. Much higher and I won't be buying.
