Right, but it was expanded beyond the original offering. Part of the decision to do so was probably leveraged on the future expandability into the film as it's production took off (see those underlined, qualifying statements, I'm not stating fact, nor was i previously). Hasbro doesn't just make products so that your inner child will feel better about itself. They want to molest your inner child's wallet.

Right...remember that the big "25th Anniversary" was originally only going to be celebrated by the first two 5-packs and that's -it-.

The movie toys would have happened regardless of it being the 25th anniversary. The movie was coming out regardless of it being the 25th anniversary.
So any of the 25th and Modern Era was a bonus. Hasbro saw that they had some potential sales with more 25th toys, so they released a bunch of 'em real quick. That's the reason why we have so many repaints and reused body parts. There was only a limited amount made since the majority of time was going to developing the movie toys. So Hasbro reacted quick to fan demands for 25th toys.

Thank You Hasbro for the new Airborne. Where's Big Ben, Spearhead, Footloose, Lowlight, Repeater, Claymore, Night Viper and Muskrat? How about a Modern Era Barrell Roll, Mayday?
How many times are you going to post this? Even if Hasbro looks at the message boards ( I know Brian Savage and his team do from the Gijoe Collectors Club, they admitted to at the con) don't you think they get the idea already? Oh god, this made my day... Thanks for the laugh.

The only reason more Hasbro stock has not been added to my kids portfolios is that I believe it will be more affordable if I'm patient, then I can buy and hold for them while it comes back up. Fundamentally the company is solid and will perform well...if they could invest in a few flops I could buy in sooner is all.

Maybe I'm not wording it correctly. This is basically what i meant. I think with the production of the film starting they saw an opportunity to take the modern era line up to the beginning of the film and then roll those fans, captured by the quality of the modern era figures, into the film line. The toy lines wouldn't be listed on the same balance sheet. If they can get modern era fans buying into movie toys that would help in creating a successful toy line for them on paper. This would have been a bean counter and executive decision.
All-in-all, Hasbro gave us a ton of figures and a respectable number of new sculpts in a short amount of time. To say nothing of the vehicles. |
