Where I work, the head manager who normally makes the schedules is out sick and therefore unable to make the schedule. So they let her 16 year old who works there make the schedules. 16 YEARS OLD FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD! To top it all off, he scheduled himself for 6 days and everyone else for 3 days each. What the crap man? Sorry guys. Needed to vent about it somewhere.

I don't know how strict your company is about the scheduling but mine would not allow that at all. Especially with the extra days they gave them self. That sounds like a HR issue honestly. If the 16 year old is not a manager of any sort then the schedule could be invalid. A manager should be able to write down who should get what hours for the rest of the employees, no matter how sick. All the kid has to do is enter it. Have you discussed this with your head manager or some other authority? I guess if you want your hours then you may have to step on some shoes. Beware though, it could cause retaliation. Who is next in line for scheduling?

I understand why the head manager was unable to do them. Is in hospital. What it boils down to is he is kin to the owner of the business. I don't forsee being able to do anything about it. Just needed to vent. Let out some stress.

That's understandable. If the kid is part of the business then it is what it is. Hopefully the manager gets better soon and you can get those couple days back. Enjoy the time off at least. I'd be peeved but considering the circumstances, it is tough to be able to do anything. I work for a fairly large corporation and that is not an option there. They have strict guidelines to follow. Maybe you could bust out a custom with the extra time. It's a great way to relieve some stress. Creativity keeps the mind occupied in a positive manner.

I usually go to the range to relieve stress. I guess my main thing is that kin to the owner or not, a 16 year old has no business making schedules. He obviously made it with only himself in mind. He's young, but the rest of us have bills.

Just an idiosyncracy of a family business.
My aunt once worked as sort of a property manager supervisor for a family-owned realty company, and the longer she was there, the more she realized she'd been hired to be cleanup woman for the messes made by the owner's son. Turns out he had all this responsibilities in the business that he neglected which caused big problems and cost major money, but other people would always get the blame for it and they'd be the ones who were fired. So my aunt basically followed the son around trying to figure out what he was supposed to be doing so she could do it herself or see that it was done and try to save other people's jobs who worked there. The owner ended up dying and the son inherited the business so my aunt quit. She figured (correctly) that he'd just sell all the properties and retire at thirtysomething. |

Hopefully it will be a frustrating blip in your work year. But if its more than an "one then done" thing, you might have to fall on your sword and complain. Either way it sucks.
Money and bills aside, I'd take Major Blood's advice and do something special with the extra time that you usually don't have the time or opportunity to do. Turn it into a positive. |

Man that sucks. Nepotism is hard to overcome. It would seem a 16 year old wouldn't be able to work full time like that with school and all.

My only suggestion is to look for a new job with the extra time you have.
