It goes 3, 1... 2.................... 4 for the order that I like them, but I think "Raiders" is damn close to being tied with "Crusade".
Raiders is the essential Indy flick though, and may be the best of all of them. I just like the 2 with the Nazis over the others. While there's a lot of iconic scenes from Temple, I don't like it at all, but it quickly moved up after I saw the last one which shall not be named. |

I loved raiders of the lost ark, but for some reason the scene in Temple of Doom with them eating monkey brains stands out the most! Reminds me of 'faces of death' lol

The reasons I don't like "Temple" and "Kingdom" is that they both have ridiculous stuff in them that is more than just suspension of disbelief.
Whether you believe in religious relics and their folklore/mythology, that whole "magic" should be the only non-realistic story element involved. Other things, like physics and death-defying escapes should be kept within a realm of plausibility for me to thoroughly enjoy an Indy film. In ToD and KotC, Indy falls from a plane in a raft and lands in water, and he gets blown up in a fridge in a nuclear blast, and survives both. Those 2 elements immediately pissed me off and set the tone for the whole film. KotC has plenty more ridiculous escapes, like the ridiculous jungle chase with the monkeys, and the fall down the falls, and the giant ants, not to mention the whole alien MacGuffin. I also don't really like the young sidekick aspects of either, which Raiders and Crusade left out. Short Round is definitely more enjoyable, but I'm getting tired of Shia LaBeouf in flicks as the wise-cracking kid. Aside from the opening sequence in "Temple of Doom", I'm actually a lot happier with it once they get in the temple. The story from there is pretty good. Short Round was semi obnoxious, but he's grown on me over the years. The Shankara stones, while a departure from Judeo-Christian relics, are still religious relics that there is documentation of having existed. I feel that in KotC, Lucas and Spielberg just threw in aliens because they've had so much success. It just had way too many elements of suspended disbelief which made it like a bad dream Indy may have, instead of a typical Indy adventure. |

There's Raiders, and then there's everything else.
when i walked out of KotCS, i felt like i'd been kicked in the cinematic nuts. most disappointed i'd been in a movie since Phantom Menace. thanks, George! |

I also find it weird that Temple of Doom occurs years before Raiders, yet we never see Short Round again. I wish Short Round had been the kid in KotC at least, and it didn't turn out to be Indy's bastard child. Marion also seemed like a weak link in Raiders, and just seemed like a soul-less puppet in the 4th film.
Okay, I'm done. |

That's what we're led to believe in the movie. It has never been cleared up.

Tough choice between Raiders and Crusade. Temple of doom was kinda lame and Crystal skulls made me hate life for a whole week.
