I was out eating with my wife the other night, and after the meal was finished i paid the bill with a card and told her to leave the tip. I was actually impressed. My wife left a pretty nice tip. She was never really that good of a tipper before we met. Except for bartendars, she would usually tip them for every drink...
What % do you guys usually tip and what makes or breaks a great evening for you?...

Having been in the food industry before I tip around 18 to 20% if the service is good. If they are having an off night I cut them some slack. If I don't see my server after my meal has been served until I get my bill then I usually won't tip more than 12%

I tip 5 bucks for everytime the waiter asks if I need a refill and refills the drink. I feel if they are making the effort, reward them. I usually get 5-6 drinks.

I usually tip 15% for good service, 20% or more if the service was excellent.

I'm a standard 20% for good service (things come out correct in a timely manner, beer never stays empty long, good attitude). I usually dont blame the wait person if the food sucks...especially if they can get it fixed. If not (poor service, lack of attention to our requests, long waits, empty beer glass) then I'll drop to 15 or maybe 10% depending on the severity.
