I do not tip take out orders as I think somebody putting my food in a bag does not deserve a tip (I can go behind the counter and bag it myself). I also do not tip fast food joints which might be considered takeout joints.
Almost always tip 15%-20% on sit down meals however

That's pretty much exactly what I do as well.

Depending on the service is what determines the tip for me. One time we went to this restaurant and the lady was soooo horrible, the food was very slow getting there, the refills on drinks were non-existant... HELL WE WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE!!! I think when it was all said and done.. I took out a pen and wrote big on the napkin: TIP: Don't Eat Yellow Snow! And walked out of there with a smile, and for once... my wife agreed with me!

tipping at the bar is b.s. i am an avid tipper, but buying drinks at the bar for around $5 a pop tipping is rediculous.1 dollar is way more than 10%.
sepending on where we eat i will tip around $5. but usually i buy my drinks at the store and cook my own food. eating and drinking out is quite wastefull. |

I think I should get tips when I trade Joes here on the tank. If you like my service, you should throw in a few extra dollars

Great words SpaceMonkeyMafia. I agree with all of that.
I usually tip 20% and it has nothing to do with the quality of the food. If the service is bad, I might tip 15%. If it's good, 25% or more. As for the pizza guy, I usually just let him keep the change as long as it's somewhere between 15-20%. If my order comes to $18.72, I'm not going to just give him a twenty and call it good. I'll throw in a couple bucks extra. I know he's getting paid more than the servers, but I doubt it's much. |

15-20%... Depending on where you are, an easy way to do it is to multiply the tax times 3... (we have 5-5.5% tax)
Personally, there have been many times that I would have rather given the tip to the cook instead of the wait staff. |

15% minimum-usually 18 or 20. If it's lower than $9 ($7.50 lunch, etc) I usually leave a flat $1.50.
