Barkeeps usually get a buck per beer or so unless I start a tab. If the wife is along and having her goofy mixed drinks then I sometimes add an extra dollar. If I start a tab (seldom do at a bar-only if I'm paying for a group) then it is back to my standard 20% for good service and so on...

usually leave like a 4 to 5 per visit. I don't go to anything fancy, just like village inn or perkins.
Though once I left a 20 for a pregnant girl that would'nt ever let my diet pepsi get below 1/3rd, that was nice (im a heavy pop drinker). One time I even threw a bunch of pennies down to this one waiter that spent about 90% of the time we were there flirting with some 16 to 18 year olds off in the corner.

I tip $1 for every $5 spent and round up, which is close to 20% or more usually.
They have to REALLY eff up my order, and then I'll drop it to 15%. Rarely are they so shitty that I drop all the way to 10%, but if they were aggressively rude, or confrontational or completely incompetent, a few times I've scratched through the line altogether. I have really cheap friends who will tip 10% and think that's a lot, and that annoys me to no end. I've never worked in the food industry, and for good reason. I couldn't tolerate doing their job and putting up with the shit they do, so I pay well most of the time. Again, they have to be a complete douche or moron to warrant anything lower than 15%. lol, I usually tip the Sonic's car hop girl like 4 bucks and all I get is a Route 44 slushie. I don't know, it's just the way I was raised.

I'll tip bartenders my usual $1 per $5 spent/20% rule. I almost always start a tab because it's easier to keep up with what I'm spending, but if I get a mixed drink and say a beer, or 2 beers, I'll usually lump them together as "one trip" and tip $1-2 for the trip, depending on the obnoxiousness of the girly drink. Several of my close friends are bartenders, so I try to not shortchange them. Again though, if I've been standing at the bar for longer than a minute, and yet Douchey McGreasebackedhair is slinging drinks left and right to every clubbed-out-slut at the bar without giving me my due turn, he'll get $1 if he's lucky. Bartenders need to treat every customer fairly, and keep track of the queue, instead of trying to get under every barely-there skirt hanging on to the bar. I understand that some clubs and bars get absurdly busy, but come on... I've shot daggers with my eyes at some bartenders before, and they still didn't catch on. One shitty beer run at a bar, and I'm done for the night. I'll close my tab quicker than they can ask the next skank in line what she'll be having. |

Are you friends with my In laws? I usually have to leave some extra money behind when I eat with them. They think 10% is like a super good tip for great service.

Well..let me tell you some story about our tipping that I think you all may find outrageous. If me and my wife like the way our waiter/waitress serve us, good attitude and all that, we tip them what we paid for food (ie..$40.00 food plus $40.00 tip). Bad waiter/waitress don't get sh*t. Bad food don't get sh*t. Okay waiter/waitres get 1/2 the cost of our charges. Sometime we would play dare on each other depending on our mood which is usually when we are in a goofy mood or bad mood and tip them $100.00 for maybe $30.00 meal. And the biggest tip of all was $200.00 over a $300.00 drinks at a strip bar between me and my wife. We were perplexed to see our credit card statement to see $500 something and found our reciept. 300 something charges for our drinks (yes just me and my wife as we were out celebrating) and we see a 200 charges for tip(lucky waitress!). We suspected that we were sooo drunk and was trying to put down $20.00 tip but ended 200 instead of 20.00. We laughed it off and let it go because the waitress was a nice lady to made sure we were happy with our drink and made sure we were sober enough to drive home or else she'll call a cab for us. That was by far the most expensive tip ever!

Tip 15% or I'll let out a sultry sexy, "Ohhhhh". I always tip 15% and no more.
But then again, I rarely eat out and I work in a bar. But I expect at least a dollar for each beer, drink, etc I serve. Now will I get a dollar? Sometimes I don't get one or 5 or even 10 until they've drank a few beers. |
