It depends on the service. My tea glass should never be emtpy. That makes or breaks it for me.
Me and some friends went to Pizza hut(i swear we keep that place alive)and the waitress wasn't doing her job.We never got refills,we had to stare at our food while she was running her mouth. Her tip was a Dollar, ripped in half and stuffed to the bottom of 2 different glasses. That was only once though,I try to leave a good tip when the service allows it. |

I agree. People in the service industry whine way too much. If the pay and environment suck that bad, do something else. Whatever you say, you are there to serve the customer. Do your fucking job or go home.

hes in canada the rules are different for some reason.....but yes never mess with people who handle your food.....
I had a women 2 weeks ago who got mad about the cost of a loaded baked potatoe and she left me nothing. She wrote on the cc receipt $1.29 for a loaded baked pot....really?????? Well she leaves without her togo box (with a whole steak and mash pots in it). I was so mad i threw the food away.....well she comes back (she effing came back after she left me zero and wrote that on the cc....like i control the damn prices) for her food.....the hostess was like maam they cleaned the table off so your food may have been thrown away..... I came up as she was saying that.....and i was like oh no maam i saved it for you let me go get it......there was black stuff in the trash can (just a bunch of nasty stuff really).....i used tongs to pick the steak up and a piece of lettuce from the trash can to scoop up the mash pot......i then dropped the steak on the hard uncleaned floor and put it back in the box.......i brought it to her with a smile and told her that we servers in no way set the prices for anything in the store and that it clearly said in the menu what it cost. She felt like crap and told me she wished she left me a tip (well bitch whats stopping you now from doing it?) i was like no maam your satisfaction is fine with me....enjoy your steak later.... that is awesome! |

but I bet you wouldn't dare tell your waiter at the beginning of service you aren't going to tip. put your money where your mouth is and try it some time and see how enjoyable your evening is. I bet you'd change your mind about that expectation real quick and oblige, or simply stop going out to eat.

Okay, here's a slightly different spin. We've considered food/takeout/bar tips, but what about other tips that people expect?
I don't give a damn to admit it, I got my haircut as a kid at the neighborhood barbershop, and get my haircut now at SuperCuts, or the like. My haircut (I consider it the "generic male haircut") is pretty hard to fuck up, and I shouldn't have to pay much for 15 minutes in a chair to make the sides of my hair half as long as the top, and to blend between. I could do it myself if I could remove my head and still see what I was doing, but I can't. So the haircut runs around $15, I usually tip $3-$5, since it took 15 minutes or less, depending on how awkward my forced conversation went in the chair. When I get my car washed at the drive-thru carwash, it, again, costs $15 or so, and I tip $3-$5, depending on how well clean & dried off the car is. There's not much else I can think of that I tip for. Perhaps I'm uncouth, but I will not tip those bathroom valets who hand you a towel and want to try and mist you with some product, and I am not lazy (or rich) enough to ever need to use a valet for parking. The few times I do, I tip a few bucks, but I feel that's such a stupid and lazy thing to have to pay for, so I avoid it at all costs. |

15% minimum or more if the service is good. If the service is bad, I lower the tip. I also take into consideration how busy the place is, etc. since the service may be poor due to any number of reasons.
If the service is really, REALLY bad, for no apparent reason, I will leave a penny, and a nice complaint to the manager. Haircuts: $3, Carwash: $2. And I too do not tip at the overpriced coffee shops. Last edited by Lantern_Lad; 03-31-2009 at 02:57 PM.. |

And what ever you say, we're not there to take your shit, babysit/discipline your kids, and cater to your every whim like you're our only customer. When you go out to eat and you're pleasant leave at least 15%, and if you're a dick leave 20% or don't go out to eat. If you don't like tipping then don't but there are plenty of other patrons classy enough that will. Whether you like it or not the government taxes servers whether you leave them something or not, if you don't like that write your local congressman. |

Whats funny about this is Im going to school to get out of it, but I find the ones who say we whine and complain to much are just crappy tippers....I bet you and Whom are crappy tippers....and it makes you feel better about your crappy tips to say we suck.....I hope next time your steak sits on the floor for a tad longer.....But by all means tell your next Server how you really feel.....I bet youll get a nice surprise with your dinner..........I hope a server dips his balls in your food next time, but judging on your response, Im sure a server had you figured out long ago so Im sure you ate something other than your food.....which makes me smile.....jerk
