Has anyone ever scene that show "Haunting" on Discovery Channel?
It's the one where they re tell the stories of people that have been haunted in their homes by spirits, ghosts or other presences! Except it's done with more of a Unsolved Mysteries feel to it as opposed to those Ghost Hunter shows or stuff like that. I have them DVR'd and usually watch one or two a night and it's fast becoming one of my favorite programs! The crazy thing though is that it's like the ghost or spirit or entity always wins...last night was the first one I saw where the family actually stayed in the home. Most of the time it results in the family being divided or moving out all together. This basically got me thinking two things...first from a more stupid standpoint. Why does the "entity" always want them out? How come they don't like the people that moved in? What if the family that moved in was just hard working and loving and maybe the Dad liked to smoke herb when he gets home from work and the ghost could have been a big stoner back in the day and was like "Yo blow some of that smoke over here son" and just vibe together or coexist nicely? It's never like that though! Second thing I started thinking on a more serious level is do I believe this, or what would I do if this happened to me? I mean this has never occured in my life, but I don't think I could just discard it as people being crazy or their minds playing tricks on them either! Then I started wanting to know if there is anyone here on the tank that has experienced anything like this or ever lived in a place that felt haunted?

I grew up in a Haunted house till I was 15. I saw a lot of weird shiznit... The windows creeped me out, stuff disappeared, the door would always lock itself and many other strange things happened.
I always felt safer outside of my house at night time than inside it. Which made no sense. I do believe in the paranormal mainly because I have experienced a lot of strange things in my life. But I disagree with you that there are no happy or helpful ghosts, I have heard of quite a few that are benevolent. They only show the scary ones on TV for more ratings.

Well that would make sense...so were you terrified like for your life when you were there or did you just grow accustom to it?

Not to mention that Discovery likes to hype the situation a little with a few artistic liberties. What's funny to me is that in one episode they had a family who's house was examined by that Ghost Hunter crew and while the Ghost Hunter concluded that there was nothing to really fear, A Haunting made it out like The Shining.

You know, I'm not the first to jump on the weird shit bandwagon and be a "We Believe!" believer, but I don't discredit any supernatural shit.
I've heard some creepy stories by people I trust pretty well, and whether they think they saw something or it actually happened, it was creepy and believable enough that they were genuinely creeped out, and it made the hair on my neck stand up. The TRU nearest me is apparently haunted. Google the "Sunnyvale Toys R Us Haunted" and you'll see. Weird, huh? And I brought it back to toy-collecting, too. |

at my childhood home my door and the bathroom door would always shut and lock. At night it felt like someone got in bed with me. I was scared at first then I became acustomed to it. Then we found out it was nice. The stove caught fire while we were all asleep and I felt something nudge me and I distictly remember hearing something say danger and mumbling. That scared the hell out of me so I woke up my parents .Thats when they smelled smoke saw the fire and put it out. After that I felt better about the presence in my room

Many of the things portrayed in these shows seem laughable until it happens to you. I lived in a house in Portland, OR that was totally haunted. But it was very livable. When stuff would happen (like when stuff was written on the walls in the basement) we would try to just laugh it off.
I locked the door to my room at night, and every night it would rattle as though someone was trying to get in. I would say it was the wind. My roommate heard his name called and came out to see who it was. None of us had said anything. We told him he was crazy... Then one day I was home by myself and heard my name plain as day. I went out to the living room to see if someone had come home... Nope Just me. Decided that would be a good time to see if there were any new Star Wars figures waaaay down on 82nd... Lots of other crazy crap. But nothing too disturbing or threatening. Nothing was ever broken or anything like that. It's fun to talk about now, but when it happens it's a bit unnerving. |

In my 33 years I have seen a lot of wierd stuff. It doesn't help to live in an area that was civil war territory.
If you are interested check out www.theothersidez.com , a freind of mine works with these guys and their approach is definitely different. It is not a bunch of kids wearing black, nor plumbers trying to be on tv . They look at it as something unexplained and leave the assumptions up to you. |
