I have to say that I'm really enjoying westerns. Both of my parents are big fans of the genre. But I don't know, I never really got into it until a few weeks ago. The shows weren't necessarily bad. But I guess I truely didn't understand a western til I watched one.
But I like cowboys and I practically grew up in the southwest and my parents idea of a vacation during the summer was going to go see old western towns and reservations. But as for the western tv shows. They are more action packed than most tv shows these days and all the character seem to be bad dudes. The Lone Ranger doesn't take crap from anyone, yet still manages to be noble and a hero. The shows also have interesting storylines for lacking any type of monsters, robots, or aliens. So is anyone else into this genre that is slowly being forgotten? |

I dig me some westerns, it is a shame the genre isn't what it used to be but you figure it had a really good run. Just look at how much Westerns used to run things back in the day with film, radio, television, etc. it was huge.
I'm a real sucker for Spaghetti westerns though. Some of the greatest anti-heroes ever are from that genre. |

I for one love westerns, all of Terence Hill's movies are pure gold. Say what you want about kevin Costner, but he knows how to make a western.
The last batch of western movies (3:10 to Yuma, Appaloosa, Open Range) were all great, but they just came and left. The only recent western to get any success was No Country For Old Men. Westerns everyone should see: Everything by Clint Eastwood My Name Is Nobody Tombstone Quigley Down Under Barbarosa |

I'd love to see a new version of the Lone Ranger for kids. But people seem to like new stuff. Off to read X-O Manowar. |

It did have a good run, I'm not doubting it. When your told stories by your favorite comic book artists how they used to dress up as cowboys and sit in front of the tv. You knew it was big.

Jonah Hex, Loveless, and the Lone Ranger are the ones I've read a bit of. Of course these stories are a lot more dark, it's interesting to see a real serious take on Lone Ranger though. |

There were a few short runs of other forgotten western heroes also but the names slip my mind. Last edited by CallMeRotten; 03-23-2009 at 10:32 AM.. |
