82.... you can always make returns too!
I will say though, that if the temptation is too great, and you know yourself well enough to know you can't control the impulse to buy... quit. Walk away. Be done with it. Probably not a very popular sentiment around here, but if you have the kind of personality that's all or nothing, put all into your family and give nothing to the hobby.

Ok, now that I have rational thought, I can tell of a method I use frequently.
If I go into a store and find some stuff I like, but not sure if I REALLY want, I buy it. I don't open it or do anything with it. I keep the receipt with it. This way I can look at it in my house, and make the decision in a NON busy environment. Then, after looking at it, I decide I don't need it. I simply return it. PLUS, this method also settles my "gotta buy it" urge as I did buy it. Almost everything of this nature sits in the bags I bought them in. The Marvel figures are currently undergoing this regimen. |

I got into a conversation with my wife just the other day on my collection. I went into Target and saw a buttload of Joes that I already had but I coulda picked up one or 2 more. I passed on them and walked out the door.
Got into the car and wife said "didn't find anything?" I told her yeah.. I coulda bought a few figs but passed because I already had a squad of them. "SQUAD?" she said! I said yeah.. 5 of the same troops. She totally wigged on me. I told her to calm down because I wasn't like some folks who make 6 figures a year and don't have a wife or children. Then she asked "When is enough gonna be enough?" I didn't answer that question and changed the subject. But my fellow Tankers: "WHEN IS ENOUGH GOING TO BE ENOUGH?" I mean what are we gonna do with all these collectibles in the future besides stare at them and eventually sell them or they will become GARAGE SALE material when we are dead and gone? No... I refuse to stop collecting, but are we ever gonna come to an end of this? Are we gonna be on the Tank and Ebay when we are 70 and still complaining about Joes and other things we can't find. Damn.. shoulda started a new thread! |

Well, after reading this thread, posting my own thoughts and sitting back and and thinking. I am returning all of the Marvel figures I bought.
It's too much. Price, room and headache is not worth it. If these were $5.99, then I'd probably stay with it, but as it is, not worth it. I got my Joes, IJ, and some Star Wars I pick up here and there. Luckily IJ is about done (Just need the ToD wave) |

Yeah, I'm keen on the old receipt trick. I'm actually in the process of gathering stuff up to return. Gonna nix the entire Marvel Universe line (I already have the Legends....don't need them in 3 3/4" too...it's just pointless), cutting DC Infinite Heroes, and possibly Star Wars. Staying with Joe and DC Universe Classics. I'm still addicted but it's a start.

Pure Impulse, and that my friend can get you in trouble both financially and with the wife. I can deal with the creditors calling, but the wife, I can't handle THAT withholding |

Yeah I have never Blown $200 on one toy spree.....My lady wouldnt care but I Do. I wouldnt allow myself. Life happens and The moment I spend a ton on toys my car would break for the amount I just spent on toys.
Even though me and my wife have money saved we never dip below $11 K in the bank account I just cant spend the money like that. For once I agree with Gamble......Space that shit out..... I have got all the Marvel figs I wanted by buying one here and there instead of buying a whole wave in one sitting.... Last edited by spacemonkeymafia; 03-22-2009 at 11:54 AM.. |

You know I feel sort of the same way. We're building these huge collections, hoping to pass them down eventually to our kids.
We seem to live in a materialistic world. At the end though, we won't be able to take our collections with us. I thought about writing a will for my collection in case something happens. Quote:
Don't get me wrong, I love all these figures, and I love finding new stuff, but when we reach the pinnacle of our lives, these figures will still be here, going to some relative, hopefully our kids, and that is all we have to show for our lives....toys, unopened and in pristine condition.
