Last time i really made a bid on joe stuff was like in 2002, so I decide to head back there today to see if i can find some of the stuff i couldn't find through the sell section.
One of the first things i see is one of the new Hiss tanks at 9.99 Buy Now. So i click and look at the details and its like 10.99 shipping and handling. I was like no way! So i go to another auction. Same 9.99 with 9.99 shipping and handling. Different picture, different seller. I noticed some of the figs too, 8 bucks for the fig, 6 bucks shipping and handling. I know shipping costs has gone up since 2002-2003 but damn, these guys are milking it for all its worth.

I don't agree those prices either but I have a few things to say about it.
Shipping & Handling is a touchy term. One part of it is very clear. That's the shipping part. It is very easy to find out how much it costs to ship something. You are correct that it doesn't cost $6.00 to ship one figure, but that is where the handling part comes in. Handling can be determined by anything that went into getting that figure to you. The seller could be adding in the price of the box and even the packing materials. They could also take into account the gas it took to get to the post office and also the time they spent doing so. This price can be anything the seller determines they believe is "fair". I'm sure there are sellers out there who add in the Ebay selling fees and Paypal fees as well. I look at it this way, pay for what you think is fair. If more and more people didn't purchase things from a certain seller then maybe they would change their practices. If people are paying their set prices then obivously things will never change. It's all up to the buyers. They are the ones who are paying. I don't agree with everything you see on Ebay, but that's why I shop around for the best price for me. The price I'm willing to pay for something might be more or less than the next person. A seller can sell something for any price they want to as log as they have a buyer. Like the old saying goes "a sucker is born every minute".

Ebay raised the seller fees and Paypal takes additional money. So shipping costs are not reasonable. Many sellers attempt to break even and can't.
I still can't believe that most people charge 5 bucks to ship a MOC figure. |

Does e bay charge you the final fee after shipping? If not it could be a way around seller fees. I have seen items for 3.00 and shipping for 11.00.

They charge for the item, not he shipping, so your theory might be right. As an ebay seller I can tell you that shipping costs ain't cheap. If you want your figure carded it will cost 5 or 6 bucks shipping. Throw in delivery confirmation, the cost of a box, packing materials and that;s were the price comes from. I open all my Joes so I look for loose figs to buy. They can ship in a bubble mailer and only cost about 1.50 shipping. A lot of them on ebay for $2-3.00 shipped. I also typically buy multiple figs from the same seller. I actively look for sellers with multiple figs I want. Most combine shiping at a rate of only a buck or less for each fig after the first one. This greatly saves on shipping. Like my earlier post--5 figs shipped for 9.99. Not a terrible deal.

I sling things once in a while too. I usually order priority mail boxes off of usps.com and flip them inside out to save loot. You can get certain sizes for free but some, like the video priority box (which is the perfect size for up to 4 carded figures) and the shoe box size. The video size has priority mail stamped on the inside though so you are stuck with going that route. What sucks about offering $5 shipping is that is what it actually costs priority with a DC. Parcel I can get it down to about $4.

I am kinda fuzzy on what to charge for shipping. I guess-timate on size of the box and the weight and I still sometimes burn myself. Hell, one time I said shipping would be 14.50 and when I got to the post office.. it was like 16.42 for snail mail!!!! I guess some people just throw in the Ebay fees into their shipping. Thats the only thing I have on high shipping.
