I had all 4 pulled 10 years ago and it was no big deal. Mine were pulled out and not cut out though. Everyone I spoke to that had them cut out had more pain and swelling vs. those that were just pulled. I went under with gas and didn't have any issue, but I would rather be sleeping during surgery. According to the surgeon I was out in about 20 minutes. The bloody gauze is pretty aggravating, but you do get a lot of milkshakes. Not a bad experience at all, but the broken femur is a different story.

It was the Marine Corps' present to me for my birthday while I was in bootcamp! That shit sucked. I was awake and they took two in one sitting. I can't say they hurt much since they apply local anesthesia but the never stop bleeding was no joke. You could taste blood for days.

so i been having some pain with my wisdom teeth, have a dentist appointment this week and im sure he is going to tell me they have to come out, has anyone on the tank had this done and if so what kind of pain am i looking at? also do they knock you out or can you stay awake during the procedure?
they did not knock me out just some Novocaine for me. not every one can take the sight of a 3 inch needle coming at you.my right one pulled right out but the left one was deep my dentist has to cut the gum which did not hurt until the Novocaine wore off and then it hurt like hell.sometimes the dentist will prescribe pain killers or just tell you to take Aspirin or Ibuprofen. now 2 years ago i had my top left removed because it had cavities and it was not worth filling. this was hard i had it surgically removed it was very deep my dentist had to give me 2 shots of Novocaine and it was quick took about 5 mins but he had to prescribe Vicodin when the Novocaine wore off the pain was almost unbarible without the Vicodin i could have never stood the pain there is alot to getting teeth removed.of course your dentist should explain it to you |

Had my uppers yanked. My dentist is an annoying bastard, but at least he's skilled. Despite being heavily impacted, he got them out without breaking anything. The wierd part was being awake and being able to actually hear the sound of flesh ripping coming from inside my head. Don't worry worry though, that sounds a lot worse than it is, which is pretty trippy, but not too painful.

I had mine taken out almost 20 years ago when I was 16. My dad's a dentist, and he wouldn't let a dentist do it so he took me to an oral surgeon. I was knocked out for the procedure, so I wasn't aware of the removal. Waking up remains one of my funniest memories. I remember the car ride home. I wondered how my mouth looked, so I checked the mirror--then a few minutes later, I wondered how my mouth looked and I did it again. My short-term memory was a little screwy, but at least I remembered right after that I had done it.
I think mine were removed early, so there was little pain in the aftermath and only a little swelling.

My experience with wisdom teeth being pulled came around 4 years ago or so... I had some cavities on them cause I wasn't able to reach my brush far enough to get at them, so my dentist sent me to an oral surgeon.
They estimated/told me it would be best to take 3 days of rest for things to fully feel better, one of the days being the day I got them out. My boss at work at the time was a total jerk, and when I told him that I was taking 3 days off the next week for the thing he scoffed and was all like "You'll be fine in a day." Of course, I told him back I was going by what my dentist said, not what he wanted, so then he only gave me 2 days off while nagging at how I shouldn't be asking for so much time off. (I called in the third cause I didn't care, guy was a jerk.) Anyway, they gassed me for the procedure. It was real weird cause I had never been knocked out before. One sec you're awake counting backwards, the next you're being woken up on a bed with a mouth full of gauze. As soon as my Dad drove me home, I was so out of it, I simply passed out in my bed for the rest of the day into night. Second day, the pain kicked in, but while they gave me pain pills for it, I simply used some Excedrin and was better. I didn't need the gauze anymore, but obviously kept to liquid related stuff for the day for food. Oh, and used the rinse they gave me too. Third day I was feeling better and able to eat somewhat solid food again (still gave slight pain). Still feels weird to feel where the teeth used to be kinda in my mouth. But really, I think the wisdom teeth removing thing is different for everyone really. You just hope to be the one whom gets by easy, with little no pain or problems. |

if its just a routine pulling a dentist could do it but if there is complications to be expected its best to see an oral surgeon. they may need to stitch the holes shut with dissloving stiches and you should eat liquids for about a week so you dont get food in there and start an infection.
rinse gently. you dont want to wash away the blood clots cause they stop the bleeding. dont suck on anything. sucking affects the blood clots also. face will swell and feel heavy when bending over. i had what the doctor called a fleshy mouth so they removed some and put in more stitches. it hurt to smile and chew. i had the top ones left in for fear of exposing the nasal cavity. some people have roots that go that deep. you should not smoke. that can lead to dry socket which is very bad and painful and another good reason to leave the top ones in. some extractions can be very violent. like if you have long roots and short teeth. getting a grip on then can be hard. a good reason to knocked out. hope all goes well for you.
