I had both of my upper wisdom teeth taken out 2 years ago. You can either be put to sleep or have shots of novicain in the gums and stay awake. I stayed awake and after having the shots I did not feel a thing. He yanked them out I heard one of them crack and there was alot of blood. He packed my mouth with gauze and gave me perks for the pain. You will have to also rinse with peroxide after words to keep your mouth clean.I would rather stay awake because when alot of people wake up they freak out. There was a lady that woke up screaming and acting like a total freak. So good luck with all that.

I had one taken out many years ago, when I was a teen. Had the gums, numbed so I was awake the whole time, but didn't feel any pain, till the novacain wore off and had to take pain killers for that one. That was also when they stiched the hole to help it close. But then in a few years ago, I had the the others pulled, awake each time and no pain during, but a little tender in the gum area afterwards, but no major pain. And they just let the hole close on it's own, rinsing every few hours with salt waster to speed up the healing process. Only annoying thing was the bleeding, that felt like forever to stop.

i had a bad experience and almost died, so hopefully you won't have to go through what i did. all i can say is, if at all possible find an oral surgeon to do the cutting. I had a regular dentist, and had an impacted tooth, which is a sideways one. It got infected, had to have a trach in my throat because of the swelling, and was in ICU for a week. legally, as i found out, if you are dentist you can f--- someone up and not be liable. and to knock me out he almost overdosed me with triazedem (valium/sleeping pills?) to start, so that should've been a warning sign. good luck

Yup, had all four of mine taken out 10 years ago. Two of mine had to be cut apart to get them out. I was semi-conscious. They gassed me (and shot me up with novocaine). I lost consciousness completely for a few seconds while they adjusted the flow of the gas, but the rest of the time I was aware of my surroundings, but just didn't care what they did. It's like your brain slows down, so everything around you kind of speeds up, and you're just plain happy.
There was no significant pain during the extractions, but I did get to hear all the ripping and cutting, but of course didn't care because of the gas. The pain kicked in after the novocaine wore off. So, my recommendations are to get your pain meds perscription filled before you have the procedure done and take the medicine as soon as possible and keep your icepacks on your face as much as possible for the first few hours to reduce the swelling. My pain got ahead of the medicine and I had to take multiple doses early to catch up. Of course, then I passed out for a very long time. But the pain subsided rapidly after that and recovery went pretty quick from then on. Yes, milkshakes are your best friend for a few days. |

fortunately for me I have no wisdom to even be pulled. I had braces when I was younger and when they were doing x-rays they said I had no wisdom teeth to grow in. weird, eh?
