Kicking a dog always cheers me up. That and a nice slice of smack my bitch up.
Seriously though, depression can be a real downer. Ok really now, my mom always said to be thankful for what we have, and realize there are a lot of folks in worse situations than me. As a teenager that didn't hold much value, but these days it really seems to help because lately it has been one thing after another and I think that is true for almost everybody lately. |

Go apply for work, an while your waiting, go help your friends, or family with things that they need done. (since the time is available to you). Keep applying, an keep busy, a lil you time is good too. But its best to stay active,an alive. a few beers with friends might help too, but do it to much, youll find yourself down a darker hole that way.

Here's a few things I've found out:
Exercise. I know it takes a lot of energy, but it really makes a difference. It releases endorphins that help the body and mind feel better. Sunlight. The body needs sunlight to feel better. Outside activities really help. Sleep. When I was laid off, my sleep patterns got all out of whack. Trust me, keep a regular sleep schedule, and get plenty, BUT not too much. Avoid depressants such as alcohol and the like. It will only worsen stuff. Friends. Just being around friends makes a BIG difference. |

In all seriousness. I have been in some pretty deep funks. To get out of them you have to get out of the house, get around people. Try not to spend hours and hours dwelling on your problems. Talk to someone you trust, a friend, relative, your priest, whoever. Talking about this stuff helps. Try to get busy with something that will take your mind off it.

I have an honest question here. Why are several of you suggesting exercise as a remedy of depression?
Seriously, when I'm depressed, jumping around, doing situps, etc is the LAST thing I want to do. I just don't have the motivation to do stuff like that. I am not trying to be counter productive here, just asking a serious question. I don't see how it works. |
