Close your eyes, concentrate and imagine one of these scenarios where you're worse off than you are now. Think of your worst fear. Maybe itís being severely burned, maybe losing the use of your extremities. Whatever the case may be, identify and focus on that very thing. Now take a deep breath and be thankful that it's not that bad. Really it isn't. You are not in a situation that isn't manageable. Even if you cannot control the outside factors or the circumstances surrounding how you now feel, you absolutely can control your attitude with regard to those things. You control the way in which you respond, or don't respond to them, no one else.
With regard to a point of attack or approach aside from the aforementioned techniques.. If you find playing with your joes therapeutic, by all means play away. I would only caution you to put this low on your list of priorities or list of effective therapies. Often times people fall into a pattern of avoidance and distraction when it comes to dealing with stress or conflict. Don't fall prey to this destructive behavior, because while it may feel good or distracting now, ultimately youíre hurting yourself in the long run. If you bust your ass all day long, then go for the joes. Just don't put anything off in lieu of that. The joes will always be there, that you know. Your opportunities won't.
So, don't give up or ease up, attack it full force, and sooner than later you'll find yourself back in the driverís seat and no longer on autopilot. But again, don't fall into the pattern of not thinking about it, thatís a common trap. THINK about it! Set your goal and then formulate a plan to achieve it. It's the only way to solve anything...

Get TONS of medication!
Seriously though, realizing it is a problem, which you have is a great first step. And realizing that people who are similar enough to you to at least love these silly toys are capable of feeling this way too should help for sure.
My personal depression is near constant, but focusing on hobbies like this is a nice little escape from life's onslaught of stresses.
I would think about professional advice. Its never done much for me, but it does help a lot of people. And while I would not dive headfirst into super-crazy medication town, do realize that way more people do take anti-depressants and see counselors than you think, so it isn't anything to be ashamed of. If you talk to someone and things go in that direction, it may help you function through these times.
Keep in mind the most pressing matters that are getting to you. Talk to anyone you know about these things, and since you are online, check out sites that deal with these very problems via information, support, discussion, whatever.
Just realize that you are not alone, especially lately, and I salute you reaching out for help and advice, rather than letting it eat you alive. You, my friend, have done a courageous thing for yourself, and you are the guy you're gonna need to count on the most to get through this.
I wish you all the luck in the world

Well we all know about God. But I feel God likes us to solve our own problems. So, you got to get money coming in the house again. Get a job. This is not a time to be proud. Start at Mc Donalds if you have to, to get some income coming. There are alot of Jobs out there. This is also the time where you'll learn who your friends are and which family members care for you. Excercising is good.
Loyal fan since 1982.

Exercise and physical activity is good. It stimulates the nervous system.
Keeping a sense of humor is also good. I think one can handle most things if one can laugh about them. I remember a client of mine some years ago. She was basically homeless, unemployed, not allowed to see her son, struggling to stay sober and get back on her feet, and deal with the pressure of being in the legal system and facing jail/prison if she didn't do everything right, but she could always laugh at herself and the crazy ride that is life, and she also kept a lot of humility. As bad as it was for her, she always would remind herself that some other people had it worse.
This brings up another mental exercise you can do to snap yourself out of self-pity: Make a gratitude list. What do you have to be grateful for? What are the good parts of your life?
Can you walk, talk, see, hear, etc.? Can you afford a place to stay and food to eat? Have you had some good times and good people in your life? If you make yourself remind yourself of these things, it has the effect of helping you see the big picture.
This, too, shall pass. Everything changes, and not always for the worse.
And I'll throw this in, too: If you're drinking or doing drugs, you could be developing addictive disease which is going to make you depressed. Basically you'll feel depressed any time you aren't buzzed or high. That's how you know you've become hooked on substances: You feel miserable without them, and way too preoccupied about when you can drink or get high again. If that's the case, I suggest looking up an AA meeting or NA if you're doing drugs.
