LMAO! Been there brotha!
How about the shame you feel when you are finally alone in the Joe isle and are elbow deep in a stack of peg warmers, searching for that BAT or whatever your missing, when a mom and kid(s) rounds the corner. It's like you got caught picking your nose or something. Or when you actually find that elusive fig and go to check out, only to get an isle with a cute chick. I have actually asked for a gift receipt before so I wouldn't look like such a complete dork. I'd probably get more sympathy if I actually was on crack! Man, thats sad. HA

The way I see it is like this. I graduated high school, met and Married my high school sweety. Have been married 15 years this year. Have 2 great kids. Jobs are secured. Have a great house.
I deserve to be able to buy toys I loved as a kid and enjoy them now with no repercussions and shame. My toys come from what I earn. I clothe, feed and support my family first. What I have left is for me to enjoy. If ANYONE thinks what I do is dumb, they need to sit back and reevaluate their own life to see if what they are doing for fun is moral or deserving. I don't do drugs, I don't beat kids, I don't con old people out of their life savings, I don't drink to the point of no return every night (there are some parties out there you know). I think I deserve something for myself. Something that reminds me of the good days past. The days when we as kids could go out until beyond "streetlight" curfew, the days all the neighborhood kids would play tag, kickball, guns or even a front yard Joe/Star Wars battles. Better yet, at this point of time, I feel I deserve to be able to play/collect/enjoy these toys without having to explain myself to ANYONE who just doesn't understand that life is going too fast and you just have to stop, pick up a toy, look back and reminisce of the days when things were oh so good. |

Once, I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the Joes, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.

Yes, freeze tag, ghost in the graveyard, sewer tag,....ahhh, those days are gone past. I missed those days.
This is honestly one of the only things that get me choked up. I had so much fun growing up. I took advantage every chance I got to enjoy my childhood. I don't regret a single thing I did or who I did it to. I just turned 35 this past Thursday. My most cherished memories are those days on my street playing with all the kids I grew up with, playing those games and toys. I have ZERO regrets. I am who I am today because of those days. I learned things that way and learned to cherish them as they happened. Not let it pass by and then spend many a night wondering what would have happened. Growing up, opportunity knocked, I let him in, kicked his ass, drank a beer with him and we both laughed it up. Good times. I now collect these new ones as well as the old ones as a reminder of what I had and what I did in those days. Mots of the Joes are sentimental to me. Throw in a classic 80's song, and I am rushed back in time, living it up once again. No one can take that away from me nor can anyone make me embarrassed by it. I won't change for some cute chick in checkout 7. I won't change for some relative who thinks it's immature. I won't change for a stranger in a store who thinks I look retarded with a shit eating grin on my face when I find the newest wave hanging there, and read the back, flashing back to the days I did the same in Children's Palace. I Will Not Change! |
