I'm sick of reading this and hearing this jargon..."Epic Fail."
Is this the new internet buzz-word? The new band wagon jumped phrase of the month? I hate it. I'm seeing it everywhere in posts, on here and other sites I frequent. Second runner up is the always great (yawn) "noob." |

It's not new. In fact it's the most over used, burned out phrase in existence. I would also like to call for it's end.

Sounds like maybe a d+d term like critical hit for critical fail when you roll a 0 or 20 with d20 dice.
We coined the term c.f.u. Which stood for critical f$#! Up. That was when you rolled the 0. We thought it was better than the critical fail! Those where the days!

I don't know how old the phrase is, but the act has been around a long time. I used to do it all the time on math tests in school. One of my old prick teachers (who I hope is dead and burning in hell now) actually gave me an F- once. That is an "epic fail".

Epic Fail is everywhere...it's like when people actually use it in their posts, I take them less seriously, because I laugh to myself that they are actually using the term, because it's so "hella" overdone.
Yes, "Hella" was sarcasm. Another bit of jargon I can do without. |

While I agree that internet and texting jargon is getting insane this particular phrase I like, although it is over done. I guess I like it because it does relate to RPG games and I am an RPG gamer.
Epic Fail in D&D would be basically a critical miss except worse because you end up destroying your weapon in the process of missing your target. I wonder why no one uses the opposite term, Critical Hit, Natural 20 etc. But I am worried what all this texting jargon is doing to the minds of the masses. I see people using this in every day speech and now many of them think that is actually how you spell certain words. I believe eventually English will not even be recognizable as such.

it's the way people who have zero personality try to feel hip by imitating something they heard someone else say that they thought sounded cool rather than developing their own way of communicating an idea.
these people also shop at Abercrombie and Fitch and stare at the shirtless male models wishing they looked just like them. |
