I try not to jump on bandwagons or live in fear and paranoia, but the new Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009 or HR 45 (google it if you have never heard of it) could really cause quite a stir. I'm no gun nutt, but I love shooting pistols and own a few. My Dad and grandfather have passed a couple of old rare pistols down to me as well. If this bill goes in to effect that would make them criminals, and give Uncle Sam the right to randomly "inspect" the homes of any gun owners. This is a little crazy. I figure many Tankers are probably gun owners and may want to learn more about what is going on in Congress.

I'll have to take a look at this "Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009", But I'd like to think hash gun laws would never be passed in the US, mainly because I don't know ONE gun owner (and I know alot of gun owners) that says they'd willingly give them up if you catch my meaning.

I doubt it. It's our right and cannot be taken away. I myself own a few firearms as you can see from my profile page. They've been lobbying for the elimination of guns for a few years now. It'll never happen.

I've never understood why private citizens would/should own guns.

This is why they might get away with something like that.

Don't be lulled into complacency. The Supreme Court ruled only by one vote (5-4) last summer that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right. The antigun crowd now has a President, VP, Speaker of the House, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Chief of Staff on their side (this is easily verified by their voting records). The above proposal and "coding" of ammunition are two of their new attempts to infringe upon our freedom. Heavy taxation of ammunition and having it declared "hazardous materials" are other angles that are and/or will be attempted. While the UK and Australia didn't have our same history, nor our Constitution, don't think it can't happen here. If you have a gun, or are simply interested in the preservation of this freedom, I highly recommend looking into the NRA.
