Well I was thinking to myself I wouldn't have to worry but I guessed wrong.Just last week I get this call saying my company has decided to hand out paycuts to everyone across the board to help cut down costs and my boss read out a pre-made script from the company about if I accept this paycut or if I wanted to leave on my on terms....which is bs since they know if you quit instead of being laid off you can't collect unemployment.I work for a merchandising company which involves alot of daily travel to many towns so you get use of a company vehicle(which helps make me a Joe-hunting pro) and now they are deciding to take away company vehicles which is horrible since now you have to put wear and tear on your own car.The next big fear is making full timers like myself down to part timers so they can save costs on taking away benefits etc. The only good news out of all of this I still have a job but everyday I get more and more nervous

I have no worries. The company I work for owns everything they have. Also I have no debt, but for the house. So even if things get worse I can something find something just to make the payments. Thanks, Dave Ramsey.

No one is really safe. I'm fairly senior where I work, but my company had to furlough people for the first time since it started almost 30 years ago. And they've cut down on the amount of monthly flying so that means less money for the rest of us but I'd rather make less than have nothing at all. Hang in there.

Ha, that's an interesting way to look at it, lawman. And just think, if more people lose jobs, you might find yourself pulling double shifts! ;)

i'm in a very similar situation. we were all given a 10% pay cut across the board. the longer the banks remain closed to financing, the worse my industry gets.
we have just had a couple very large projects put on hold or canceled indefinately due to the inability to secure financing for these project outright or the restrictions were so tight that it essentially made it impossible to move forward. it's a very frustrating situation for my firm as we have clients with projects, our clients are finding the banks almost impossible to deal with. an example; one project can not get financing for a new building because they have another building that is financed thru bank of america and the banks are concerned about the solvency of bank of america. others are finding the requirements for new financing so stringent that is makes it impossible proceed. the banking industry is going to cost me my job in the end. i weathered the dot com bust but i don't think i'll make it thru this recession. i've got 2-3 month at best if things don't improve. the only upside for my situation is my wife is a stay at home mother and former nurse. there are no shortages of job openings for nurses so if it comes to that we just switch positions and i become mr. mom and she becomes the sugar moma. i'd prefer this not to happen as i've been with my firm for almost 10 years and the thought of starting over in another is not pleasant. i'd go back to school but again, not the best time to be taking additional loans.

As a teacher right now, the pressure being put on us is unheard of, and unecessary but thanks to NCLB it's just another thing for us to deal with. With the economy in the tank, federal, state, and local aid will surely be cut weakening our ability to support our instructional abilities by purchasing technology or other teaching aids to help basic skills or special ed. students. Also, our district is in a negotiating year and right now it doesn't even look like we are going to get the percentage increase needed over three years to offset inflation. Also, we need teachers because our student population is increasing, but since that won't happen - class size will increase, offering less opportunity for us to focus on the kids who need help (educationally or otherwise) not allowing many of us to be the mentors or role models we wish to be.

yep, and most of the education stuff was cut from the stimulus package. we were very disappointed that education infrastructure was cut out as that effectively eliminates another sector of our industry.
i also have kids in school so i understand the situation from a parents perspective and i'm as equally bleak about the future of education spending and it's affects on my kids. i've already seen drastic rises in costs for us and it's bound to get worse. as it is, we are already paying for a large portion of the school supplied used by teachers as it was simply cut from thier budget. it was a shock to see public schools with similar fee's as colleges for materials and supplies but that my friends in where we are headed. before long we will be paying for public school books as well.

I don't think it will get that bad...And the public already pays for public school books through local and state taxes. We have seen a rise in the supplies that we have to ask parents to get - but as teachers we also hit the Targets and Wal-Marts in August and buy up the cheap supplies to stock up and help the kids. Our district is also in an area of Southern NJ near Atlantic City where we have to have basic supplies on hand to help kids because of the socio-economic needs of our community.
