I might be a Phillies fan, but I'll admit they are interesting. |

I think the A's will have to settle for 2nd until their pitching develops. Right now they aren't seasoned enough to make a serious run against the Angels and their insane payroll. But, give the A's a couple of seasons to develop Duchschrer, Gio Gonzalez, Brett Anderson and Trevor Cahill and they will have the nucleus of a rotation that could match the Zito/Hudson/Mulder days.... or Dave Stewart/Bob Welch/Storm Davis days.

yea, I know. point of contention though...Duchscherer doesn't need to develop. he's not a prospect, but a guy in his 30s (31 now, 32 in November). I believe he's under control for 1 more season and the A's don't plan on signing him long-term. Gonzalez, Anderson, Cahill, and Mazzaro are the guys for the future if they work out. The Angels didn't do much of anything, which is the only reason they have any chance, but I don't see them doing anything even if they did. The A's are really aiming for 2011 and beyond.
I do think that Holliday's stats will be down. There's a big difference between the Colosseum and Coors Field. But, he'll still help them out. I also expect Giambi to have a slightly more productive year now that he's out from under the NY microscope and in more relaxed/familiar grounds. Go Cubs!!!! Gotta give the Cubbies some love and I appreciate everyone that agrees with me on this. As a native of Chicago and someone that actually cried when the White Sox won the title (and trust me, they weren't tears of joy) the Cubs are due....plain and simple. Look at all the other teams that are breaking long time droughts (Red Sox, Arizona Cardinals) it's about time the Cubs finally broke theirs. I do wish though we would've kept Kerry Wood as our closer but the Indians got a good one there so enjoy. |

I forgot he is an Athletic now! I've yet to see a Rockie move on to another team and perform as good as he did at Coors. It's pretty obvious that all hitters overall benefit greatly from playing in that thin air up there. Holliday's career BA in Colorado is .357, everywhere else it's only .280. He's also hit 84 career HR in Colorado, while only hitting 44 on the road. He's knocked in 307 RBI's at Coors, while only knocking in 176 RBI's everywhere else. (BTW, he only has 50 more career AB at home than on the road). I'd imagine he will probably hit around .285, .290 and probably hit about 20 homers and have around 80 RBIs as an Oakland A in 2009.

I wonder how PECOTA predicted the '09 season (I guess I can look that up myself, but I'm lazy). |

LOL. I'm a stat whore. I love baseball for that reason! He's a quality player for sure, but I don't think he'll have the superstar numbers like he did in Denver. Guess we'll find out in about a month! Damn, can't believe it's baseball season again! I am excited!!! Even though I am a White Sox fan, I follow every team and player and enjoy watching any game.

The Yankees are loaded!! I see them winning it all which sickens me to say.
You've got the Tribe (my team) pretty low. I can't argue too much because they have so many question marks. I hope that Hafner and Martinez can return to form. |
