Ok I know this is going to be a bit biased because I am a big Jason fan but I figure I will say my piece and see who bites....
The thing is with Friday the 13th movies you know whats going on. A bunch of dumb teenagers are going up to the woods to check out this place "crystal lake" either to counsel the camp kids, because someones relative has a place up there or whatever. Bottom line group of annoying people are going to go out into the woods, drink, get high, have sex and wind up hacked up. Knowing that, there is also a certain fun factor that came with these movies back when, I mean the guy gets more jacked every time he comes back from the dead, the predicability is laugh a minute, and its one of those things where its hmmm...so cheesy, its awesome. On a side note I think if anything took the cheesiness out of the franchise, it was the toy and collectible aspect of all things Jason. Ok now, on another note, all kidding aside Jason Vorhees is an established charecter, and in his own right has a solid storyline. As solid as Darth Vader, Cheif Brody, or any other established charecter and quite a few things left a "fanboy" like me thinking..no way Jason would ever do that, and you just made that fun "cheesy" stuff I was talking about, stupid. Ok, one of the 1st kills...he ties the girl up in a sleeping back and hangs her from a tree over a campfire to burn alive. Since when the hell does he do stuff like that??? Jason Vorhees is a machine. He would never have the mental capacity to think of something that elaborate. His whole mission is seek and destroy as quickly as possible using his physical attributes as effectively as possible, size, strength, speed etc. Chop of his/her head and get to the next one, wipe em out then wait till the next movie for the next group of dummies to show up. I never felt that they stayed on him long enough to showcase how strong and fast he is. (I mean for a guy that died as a child and keeps comming back like a WWE wrestler and all) There just werent too many scenes of him busting through stuff or a worthy advesary almost getting the best of him and then he snaps their back etc etc...just didnt happen. The worst part was the ridiculously long ammount of time they spent on the sex scenes. Trust NOBODY likes a hot chick more then I do but if I wanted to see porn or a "girls gone wild" video I would do just that. Stupid things like a naked girl water skiing with her A+F boyfriend went on for WAAAAY too long. There were 2 other sex scenes were I was seriously getting straight up annoyed. Again, if I wanted porn, bad music, and crap dialog I would go get an x rated movie....it was over the top and stupid. The cool things? Hmmm..a few nods to a few of the older franchise movies, if your a fan like me you will notice the "black thumbnail". The fact that it stayed in NJ and maybe how the very end mirrored the very end of the original. I went to see Friday the 13th in hopes of Jason Vorhees that it would be as fun to watch as the other, that it would have the "guys" laughing at the ridiculousness of it but I didnt get that. I got a softcore porno movie with bad acting and a Jason Vorhees that wasnt updated and modernized but updated and "changed". Save your money and buy the DVD set of the old ones called "From Crystal Lake to Manhatten". Ton of extras in cool packaging. It doesnt dissapoint. If your not a fan and were planning on making this your introduction to the franchise. Just remember the Hall Of Heroes will be out soon. Save your coin! |

They keep hiring the same retards to write everything. This reboot is already screaming for another reboot.

Yeah, I probably should just hire Headman to do all my writing. You get done in 2 sentences what takes me about 19 paragraphs.

That said........I think it's laughable that they yet ONCE again set it up for a sequel. I didn't quote you, but you mentioned something about Jason having a *solid* storyline....uhh, I hope you weren't serious. Iconic, perhaps..the storyline? C'mon. The *story* takes 15 min. to portray, if that..the rest filler.
Is any Friday the 13th really any different from the previous, aside from the cheese factor? I happen to like Friday the 13th, but to a point..a short point. After that it only gets worse and worse. Same crap different day. Do what Zombie did with Halloween. A single remake and end it. |

The original Friday the 13th was different than the rest. There was no Michael Myers(Halloween) ripoff running around in a hockey mask. The first movie was about a vengeful/psychotic mother and not some dead guy going around killing people. I think by the time they did the 3-d movie they realized they couldn't take the series seriously anymore. I thought Jason would do a broadway show in "Jason Takes Manhattan", maybe a rendition of "Puttin on the Ritz" like Young Frankenstein. Egads, maybe after all the crap musicals they are putting on broadway these days we will see "Friday the 13th:The Musical". Sorry as it sounds it might be an improvement

I liked it,and im a long term die hard fan.
It didnt quite "feel" like a Friday movie to me,but I knew this was a new take and in this one-Jason is a bit more intelligent-he sets traps so the kids cant escape through the woods once they are in the camp. He gets angry,he runs,he feels more emotional attachment (okay so they always hinted that, but kidnapping the girl was new) and he doesnt just want to kill-when he can,he PUNISHES the kids. All in all I liked it,and I think it will get better with multiple viewings now I know what Im getting. BTW Part 7 is still my fave!

Pt 2 Potato sack did rule, and sideshow made an awesome 12" of that which I have, but yes, pt 7 was the best. Why? because he almost got his ass kicked buy a chick that should be in the X-Men. The part when he had the electrical cord arround his neck and you can see him actually a bit annoyed...pretty badass.
