Recent poll on ESPN ranked the best receivers in the NFL (fan poll).
Not that long ago it would have been Terrell Owens. Now: Larry Fitzgerald - 59% Andre Johnson - 17% Randy Moss - 14% Steve Smith - 8% Terrell Owens - 2% Wow... How the mighty have fallen.

I'm surprised Boldin isn't right there under Fitzgerald. He was the best receiver all season, most touchdowns and most fantasy points...and that's including the 2-weeks he was out from a broken face. it wasn't till the postseason that Fitzgerald turned it on big time.

I am more surprised that Andre Johnson of the Texans didn't make the list.

Randy Moss would have been much higher on that list if it wasn't for the Brady injury.

Boldin should have been on there instead of Steve Smith, or just push Terrell Owens (who is no longer an elite receiver) off the list completely.

I think Boldin will come up big in the Super Bowl, they are just setting things up for him with all the Fitz plays in the playoffs.
As for 85, he is way overrated and drops as many as he catches it seems.

I think Boldin's problem is that he pulled the "Wide Receiver Diva" thing too early.
Look at the other "divas" (Owens and Chad Johnson at the top, Steve Smith and Randy Moss below). They all first made their reputations as all-pro wide-outs before they started the diva act. Boldin just barely hit the all-pro and immeditaly started his diva routine. He didn't wait long enough. Braylon Edwards didn't wait at all and look at him (okay, his problem is more of that he can't hold onto the ball but..).

I can see Larry Fitzgerald coming in first. He has burned the corners and safeties this year. Fitzgerald and Bouldin have been awesome this year. The Cardinals have played more aggressive at the right time and it payed off for them.
However, I have to disagree with the comments made from previous posts (see above) regarding Steve Smith from Carolina. I'm a Panther fan and living here in Charlotte and being a PSL owner; I know that #89 isn't a "diva". Yes he beat the crap out of Ken Lucas at training camp, and previously another player (Anthony Bright?) a few years back, but Steve plays with heart and emotion and we need that. If everybody would've played the way Steve does (cough...cough...Julius Peppers...cough) then we would have done better against Arizona. I walked away from that game sick to my stomach. I didn't want to hear about it or talk about it for days. That kind of loss just burns you up. However, we went 12-4 and won our division which is a very good season. Steve Smith did lead the league with receiving yards per game this season. Don't let the on field antics cloud your perception of Smith. He's done alot for the city and the fanbase. Is this bias because I'm a Panthers fan....Yes...But it's my team. BTW, look for Julius Peppers to be franchise tagged and then traded off. His agent has already made the comment that Peppers doesn't want to stay here and now the blood is in the water with the fanbase. In all honesty it's deserved. He played like crap last year (07-08) but with this year being a contract year his game stepped up. If you don't want to play here then please leave. You're only wasting the time and money of the fans, owners, and other players........end rant.... |
