I truly hope this is a resolution you can stick with. My father died of lung cancer 3 years ago, actually it spread from his lungs to his heart, and I believe that if all smokers saw what he went through in the 4 months period of being diagnosed and then passing away, that nobody would smoke. Ironically he had quit smoking 17 years earlier but still socialized with smokers and breathed their second-hand smoke at a little restaurant were they met a few nights a week for coffee and to chat.
I guess the sooner you quit the better chances you have. |

If that's all my wife smoked it wouldn't bother me but with 2 young kids (which she won't smoke around ) I want her to stop as not only does it harm her but it can harm our kids as well. |

I'm glad to read about you guys trying to quit smoking. It's a hard habit to get out of, but it'll be worth it in the long run. I won't preach the reasons. I wish you all the best of luck - stay strong!

2 months is the longest I have gone without a smoke.
At 30 years old. I hate that I have the addiction. In fact, as I type this. I am smoking and it's 3AM here. The 2 months of quit was cold turkey. I'm just so dialed into smoking it's very, very hard to stop. I use it as a creative crutch, and I also chain smoke like crazy when I drive. And I work in a creative field, and I drive a lot. So it's become like an attachment to the lifestyle I lead. |

I tip my hat to you. I decided to also quit cold turkey, the first 3 days are usually the worst, then it just gets easier. This is also my 2nd time quiting in my 34 year life. the first time lasted all of 6 months with constant cravings.. this time just feels different.
This will be my second month smoke free. I now thank goldfish (you know.. the snack that smiles back until you bite their heads off. LOL) which became my friend. The first time I ate after quiting about killed me.. so I went on a craving hunt. I know people usually end up eating more and gain a lot of weight after quiting.. So i decided to go somewhat healthy.. every time I craved a cigarette, i would munch on goldfish. Soon the cravings went away and I haven't looked back since. Even when I go out to a bar and drink, the craving isn't there. So I understand what you are going through and wish you the best of luck.

I haven't eaten red meat or pork in over 10 years, I gave up fast food 2 years ago after seeing Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me,
I got tired of eating Soylant Green. I rarely drink sugared drinks. And I gave up Smoking last January. On the 13th it'll be exactly a year. Never even cheated. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, so I don't want to get it. She's thankfully doing well, due to treatment and a macrobiotic diet I had her on. But since I don't have anything but drinking, I think I'll give that up or cut down on that next New Year's. BTW Shogi, I found that every time I quit smoking in the past I'd get really sick too. I wonder what that's about? |
