i doubt your clothing has anything to do with it.
I always think people look suspicious hanging out by the same items for a long time...and holding items in their hands for a long time..walking around, then putting the items back on the shelf. When going to the back of the pegs, we suspiciously push our groin area up against the lower shelves where it would be more difficult for cameras to see what you're tucking away. It just LOOKS suspicious. Don't be so insulted if someone is suspicious of you. You didn't take anything so there's nothing to worry about. They are trying to prevent theft. Help them by not giving them a hard time. I never go into Target, Walmart, or TRU without having an employee come over and straighten up near me. Why? Because I'll spend 30-45 minutes making up my mind a lot of the time. I'll look through everything 3 or 4 times, hold stuff, walk around, put it back, etc. I have "issues" when it comes to shopping. It's all good though. I expect it. They are just covering their asses. We use to do it when I was in management at KB Toys and a WHOLE lot when at Spencer Gifts. Try not to take it personal. |

Haha, wow. Sorry. Didn't realize this thread was that old. It was bumped so I had to reply.

It is always amusing to see old threads come back to life.

Trust me, they won't put their hands on you unless they're really stupid and itching to get sued.
Many stores have a policy where you can't even follow a shoplifter into the parking lot these days (which generally is pretty wise...never know who's armed in some fashion and crazy enough to use it). If they were trying to pull the "flood the aisle with employees to intimidate me shtick" I'd probably ask to talk to a manager, and then have them pull up the last six months' of receipts listed in their system under my phone number. Then smile politely and say, "Unfortunately, you'll no longer be receiving any of that money." I wouldn't imagine what probably amounts to a couple thousand dollars is something they'll scoff at. |

Read most of this, funny stuff, and sad at the same time.
My story: I was at Newark going home to Norway, after a 20 hour delay! I was overtired, dirty, smelly and had my luggage filled with g.i.joes. Anyways we get the security people to let us come into the hall where we get on our flights (no stores were open yet, but we just wanted to sleep on the floor there right next to the gate - said so to them and they understood and were really nice about it). Anyways as my baggage goes through the scanner the guy looking at it goes "Are those G.I.Joes or Star Wars figures?" There was a certain tone in his voice, so I replied a bit frustrated "yeah, they're G.I.Joes?" He continued: "Well you can't bring those with you" Keep in mind I was really really tired, irritated and annoyed at this point and replied: "Why not?" The simplest of answers astounded me: " 'Cause I want them". I bowed my head in silent laughter, thanked the guy, picked up my baggage and headed to the gate for some long awaited sleep. It would be funny as heck if this guy was a tanker. Anyways, before all this I had a Japanese t-shirt on that said "rated H" Which is Rated: Perverted. (Yes I wore this in Japan were it got lots of laughs), which the same guy asked about as I was going through the security stuff. Just thought it was funny, as he probably felt a bit like me, a geek/nerd and not against me like these store people seem to be. edited: Oh, hope nobody scoffs to badly at the Thread-omancy, it was actually quite a good one. |

You know what happens to me at TRU? People think I work there and ask me to help them find stuff. It's happened twice in the last month. It's b/c I go there after work and wear khakis and dress shirts to work. Never mind TRU employees have a uniform.
Then they look at me funny when I tell them I can't help them b/c I don't work there |

I think I would have to make it a point to show up at that TRU everyday just to mess with management. Just go in an re-organize the shelves, put all the figures backwards on the pegs.
The next time someone hears a Code Geoffrey called they should just go prone on the floor with their hands behind their head and start screaming "Call my lawyer, call General Hawk, Call the President---it's a Code Geoffrey." |

I look about 10 years younger than I am (so that would make me look about 16) so I get people following me in the make up section of Shopper's Drug Mart, of all places. I just want my damn liquid eyeliner, leave me alone.
