They both sound like a Yoko Ono record set out to destroy the world....I'm also tossing in the Chamberlain from "The Dark Crystal".

Even as a kid the idea of a skeleton seemed to fit Skeletor as a character. His plans were rarely 'fleshed out' properly. My overriding memory is that he was surrounded by a team of bumbling lackies who could be counted on to do more damage than He-Man. He would punish them for their failure, but they would return the next week all the same.
Cobra Commander had ridulcous moments too. This was offset somewhat by the fact that he had at least a few semi-competent alies... and the comic version compensates somewhat for the cartoon version. I may be biased though. Never did like He-Man, was just too over the top for me, and the figures seemed malformed and basic compared to Joes. |

It kind of depends how you look at it. In the real world, Skeletor is of course ridiculous. But in his universe that's populated by talking fish-men, orange ape-like creatures, giant bees, and green cats, he pretty much fits right in. Cobra Commander is a little over-the-top for our world, but, like Skeletor, doesn't seem so wacky in his own mythos.
If we're talking "real world," Skeletor is obviously sillier. |

I know, right? He-man was great. It was fun and exciting, but it was no G.I. Joe. And when it came to realism, Joe had it beat hands down. There was no super powers in G.I. Joe. There was no magic or talking animals in G.I. Joe. Good guys wore their shirts in G.I. Joe. The only guys who might have fit in in Eternia were Dr. Mindbender and Serpentor. Cobra Comander would have shot Skeletor and Prince Adam. He knew all the Joes' real names; he would have known He-Man was really Prince Adam.

Hmm.. I don't know a buffed up skeleton man or a human terrorist. This is a tough one. Wait, no it isn't - Skeletor is a hugely ridiculous baffoon!

It's harder to believe that the Cobra organization would continue to follow CC when there were SO many high-egos that were trying to usurp him. The mighty destro, the two-timing twins, the nefarious Zartan and of course Serpentor (who obviously took over for a bit).
Even though Skeletor is more ridiculous in a direct comparison, his lackeys were far stupider and therefore his continued leadership role made more sense.

did any of you see the 2002 re-imagining of masters of the universe? skeletor was the epitome of badassedness on that show. comparing him to the original is like, uh, comparing comic book cobra commander to cartoon cobra commander.
(yeah, they were both pretty silly in the old cartoons. but at least skeletor never told anyone to clone his replacement.)

At least the Commander had the common sense to wear pants.
