I watch a lot of movies, and I'm betting a lot of my fellow Tankers do too. So here's a thread where we can list and tell other members about any films we've recently watched.
My latest: Jacob's Ladder --- Jacob's Ladder (1990/I) I understood this work a lot better than the last time I saw it (back in the early 90s, when I was still a kid). Recommended if you're in the mood for a creepy, suspenseful horror movie. Tremors --- Tremors (1990) I recently showed this to my nine-year-old nephew. It's a really well-made and fun, though the language is pretty inappropriate for a kid (I had to have a talk with him about the language after it was over). Recommended if you're in the mood for a lighthearted monster film. Happiness --- Happiness (1998) One of the most brutal films I've seen in a while. Highly recommended if you want to watch a bleak, extremely twisted film that definitely deserves its NC-17 rating. Black Moon --- Black Moon (1975) So, so odd - and if it has a point, it's beyond me - but for some reason it mesmerizes me. I guess it's like the black unicorn in the film says - "The most beautiful things are the most useless." :b Edit: My bad, I guess this thread belongs in the Movies/DVD/Television forum. Apologies. |

Fantastic Planet, I watch that twice a week. Whenever, I'm starting a new art piece I watch it. It inspires me.
I also have been watching 1950s Civil Defense films. "A for Atom" is a definite recommendation. Evil Brain from Outer Space is also good. Nice tokusatsu film. |

Happiness --- Happiness (1998) One of the most brutal films I've seen in a while. Highly recommended if you want to watch a bleak, extremely twisted film that definitely deserves its NC-17 rating. Too funny. My recent movies: Slumdog Millionaire and Sunshine. By Danny Boyle that did Trainspotting and 28 days later. Slumdog is about a poor Indian kid who goes on a quiz show in the hopes that the girl he loves will see him. A funny and uplifting movie, that actually shines a light on the social problems the poor in India face, while making it heartwarming and entertaining at the same time. Normally these kinds of movies are contrived and too syrupy for my tastes, but I found it really good. Sunshine is also from Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, who also wrote 28 days later. It's about a space crew on a doomed mission to reignite the dying sun. The mood, cinematrography and music is amazing. It poses a few really interesting moral dilemas. eg: If you have more crew members than you have oxygen, do you kill the extra crew member in order to give the others a better chance to live? |

I'd give it a close second only to Empire.
Jedi though... it amazes me in that final scene between Luke/Vader/Palpatine just how much emotion you can see in Vader's mask. THE FREAKIN' VADER MASK IS A BETTER ACTOR THAN HAYDEN CHRISTIANSEN!!! |
