Just curious how you vent when your favorite sports team loses? [Also, add your favorite teams that you watch and how do you like to watch your games...bar, living room, etc.]
I'll start first... I'm the type of sports fan that really gets into it. I yell! I'm the type that gets pissed off when my team loses or is losing. I don't watch at the bar, I pretty much watch at home. My wife and son are hardly in the same room when I watch sports because I yell. But when it ends with a loss, I either can't sleep (because the game replays in my head), I play a video game of that sports team and try to get my mind off the game but yeah... I tend to take things a bit hard when my favorite sports teams lose. I'm more of a football fan...but I do watch a lot of sports. NBA: Los Angeles Lakers, NFL: Dallas Cowboys, MLB: New York Yankees, NHL: Los Angeles Kings, NCAA Football: USC Trojans (and I also support my alma mater...CSU Fresno), Soccer: Manchester United

i have family members that are the yelling at the tv type of sports fans. i personally don't undertand the level of connection that would actually cause you distress based on thier win or loss. it's a game, a form of entertainment literally. much like seeing a bad movie, i walk away thinking that's a couple hours i'd like to have back... i know it does effect many people in crazy ways but i personally have more important things to stress about in actual real life than what happens in a sports game. at the end of the day is it really worth getting worked up about?
i do watch football on tv and i do go to baseball games (can not sit through a tv balllgame). i won't go to football games due to the lousy behavior of most fans. who wants to take thier kids to somethign where those around you are yelling obscenities, food flung, and general racouscous behavior and have it seen as acceptable or normal? it does happen at ballparks but the staff are typically much more responsive to complaints as it's billed as a family friendly activity.

I'm a Browns fan also. Even last year, when they were doing well, I just kept waiting for the bottom to fall out.
This year, I was excited, but still very skeptical. My doubts were easily put to rest when of course, they sucked. In college football, I don't really have a problem. Over the last 5 years, my team has lost what 5 games, and they've beaten Michigan 5 years straight? Not many college football fans are able to say that. NFL: Cleveland Browns NCAA: The Ohio State Buckeyes Baseball: Cleveland Indians Hockey: Detroit Red Wings NBA: Detroit Pistons

I yell at my Dallas Cowboys. I cuss them dearly when they forget how to play. I CANNOT STAND JERRY JONES!! He may have brought 3 Super Bowls to Dallas .. but he did it with JIMMY JOHNSON and for those who say "no no Barry Switzer won one of them." ...BAT-SLAP!!!! Jerry Jones may have money out the ass but he needs to keep his nose out of the coaches business. I swear he's getting more like Al Davis everyday. CURSE YOU COWBOYS... I DON'T EVEN WANT TO SEE YOU IN THE PLAYOFFS!! You'll just embarrass yourselves and your fans!

I realize without fandom, spectator sports such as baseball, basketball, football, and hockey (etc.) do not exist.
Having said that I always laugh to myself, and sometimes comment when I see grown, supposedly straight men, argue at a bar bench about some "stat" or who's team is better. To have so much interest over another man's shoe size, college he went to, what he did last night duirng the game and afterwards...etc, is a bit suspect to me. These "fans" get all amped up and fight, argue, make a team the centerpiece of their lives, is beyond comprehension to me. This coming from a ex-high school basketball player, baseball player in my youth, etc. You see it on tv with those commentators as well. I know it's their "job". These guys get red in the face talking all about stats and totally insignificant things. I wish people had that much interest in politics and important things such as our country and communities. I think if you have that much time to spend concentrating on other men's existances who play some sport with a stick and a ball, you need to re-evaluate your priorities. |
