Unions = the mob.. the mob is gone.. there is no one there to take care of the big 3.. I DO agree with comment about the oil companies should be there bailing them out.. but.. I dont know..
There will be millions of people effected by this. between the big 3 themselves.. the suppliers that no longer have anyone to sell product to.. raw material suppliers that supply the suppliers that supply the big 3.. LOTS OF SUPPLING GOING TO STOP.. which will effect a lot of people everywhere.. you might think that it wont.. look around your town how many jobs will be directly effected by this.. Car Dealerships Gone - theres 20-50 people per dealership without jobs Steel suppliers - job cuts Miners that mine for raw material - job cuts Manufactors that dont work directly for the big 3 but supply them (arvin industries in the Detroit area that assemble mufflers for GM) - job cuts/plant closures Assembly plants all around the county that put together parts (EPC of Mattawan puts together airbag clips and sensors for GM) - job cuts Just because the BIG 3 are being made mention.. doesnt mean it wont affect your city/state and the overall of the USA Im not nessacarily for this.. but I do understand what it means if they go under.. its not good.. the US could have a MASSIVE issue on its hands if these guys fall.. we could recover.. we have done it before.. but what major life change will happen to make the recovery.. If I recall correctly.. the last recession ended with the manufacturing boom out of the Detroit area.. the auto industry started up.. and presto jobs across the country.. whats next... I dont know.. but this is rough times for all that are involved. |

If they want to bail out the auto industry in order to save jobs, then taxpayers should get stake in the company. If our money is invested and we face risks associated with that investment, then we should get some ownership and a chance to make something of that investment in some form of dividend or vehicle discount or whatever. If taxpayers are going to share the risks, then they must also reap the rewards and simply saving jobs isn't enough.

Well if they stay in business there are still going to be massive cuts in all of those areas. Hell they have already started closing dealerships in my area, and limiting who the remaining dealerships can be transfered to, effectively closing them once the current owner decides to quit. The people that are going to be hurt most are the pensioners. Bankruptcy or Bailout their perks are going away.

I dont think nationalizing the industry is the answer either.

The american in me says yes.....but they need to lay off of the big suvs and trucks. Millions of job will be cut and it's Great Depression all over again. I wasn't there but I heard it sucks. If they do auto bailout, I can see the toy bailout coming next. Watch out, Hasbro, don't get too greedy!!!

I see it as a double edge sword. Look how successful the Wall Street bailout was (sarcasm). The government has no idea where that bail out money went. These companies need to do some sort of merger or have a better plan to where exactly all this bail out money will go. We can't let the big 3 fail because our country was built on the auto industry. Cities like Detroit were made on blood, sweat, and tears of the auto workers.

Wow, good points. I have to say I agree with everyone that said no. I live in the same town as Sikorsky Aircraft ( makers of the Blackhawk) who just had a long strike and I have to say the unions are destroying this country. Things are bad for all of us but we cannot pick and choose who gets a hadout and who does not. I am sorry for the workers but bad things need to happen before it gets better. Greed is out of control in this country!
