Certainly not a totally invalid point. I've thought about that myself, but I'm not sure that video games are to blame for all decline in interest of comic books, non-sports card, action figures, ect. But, on the other hand, I'm totally convinced they're the problem.

KB Toys to liquidate - 12/11/2008 9:38:00 AM - Playthings
All the KB Toys even remotely near me closed long ago, but still, it's sad to see the chain go. :( |

This is sad. I saw it coming but it sucks. Now all my childhood stores are gone, Toys R Us us the last man standing. Caldor, Bradlees, Childworld, Kidstuff, Super X drugstores, McCrory, Woolworths, now KB, ALL GONE.
I'm gonna go take some pics of the store while they're still open. I wish I had some pics of all those other stores, just for the memories. I found a few on websites like deadmalls.com & The Caldor Rainbow but I wish I had some of my own. Especially Bradlees on "The Dock" in Stratford CT. I have a ton of awesome memories from that store & now it's gone. Got my G1 Jetfire there. Those were the days. *sigh* KB Had pretty much all closed up in the Tampa Area but I moved to the Clearwater area a few years back and the mall here actually has one. Unfortunately as previously stated they had crap for stock and the prices were pretty bad, but I did pick up a Variant Skeltor there on sale for $3. When I was a kid there was aside from the big three, Woolworths, Skaggs, TG&Y, Freds, Gibsons, McCrory, Sterlings, Fred P Gattis, Service Merchandise, Lionel Playworld, Toy Wharehouse, Montgomery Wards, and a few others I'm probably forgetting... Looks like the future will be Wal-Mart, Target and K-Mart. I don't think I like that but its already here. I guess its the world of Online Shopping from here out.

Its sad though, when I was a kid I was into comics, toys, hobbies AND Video games.. I don't understand why people let this obsession with video games take over everything else.

I agree it is sad to see all the old standbys of yesteryear gone for good. There were so many stores when I was a kid to choose from now its basically the big three and TRU but they have already closed a lot of the TRUs around me as well.

But you are right its all shoes, clothing and crap. I used to be a huge Mall Rat but now I hardly ever go to one unless I have to pay the phone bill or get a haircut. I remember the days when they used to have Comic/Toy Shows at the malls man I loved those days it was like a mini Comic Con. *BRING BACK THE 80'S!!*

From what I have seen in out store E-mails TRU is dominating sales this year. People will spend on their kids before they spend on themselves so essentially ppl are coming to TRU to buy toys rather than Wally or Target to get toys and other things for themselves. TRU is headed in a VERY bad direction as a company in my opinion . I can see them having a good year for once , being cocky and doing something stupid that will cost them big time.
