I was just thinking the same thing. People's lives are so meaningless and empty that they live for insignificant things such as "black friday" sales? I mean, c'mon now...
They leave the store with a boatload of garbage, made in CHINA, buy, buy, buy...me, me, me-lemmings who let corp.'s (and the evil day known as christmas, which I despise) dictate their souls and minds? It's like everyone lives in a brainwashed haze. People need to wake up and smell reality. I hope WAL MART gets sued severely. So severely that it sets a precident for future "fridays" in hopes people grow up and get a clue. sad, sad day. I feel bad for that man's family. RIP its not there fault....you want to blame anyone blame Man....not a store who did what they always do......the sad thing is they will get sued...but the A Holes who killed him will never be brought to Justice........ |

while the people behaved disgracefully, i would also fault wlamart for a complete lack of control of the situation. legally, i'm sure they are on the hook for what happened though.
i am no stranger to black friday line waiting. i've done it several times and this year was the first time my wife decided to wait in line at our local walmart. about 30 minutes before opening, she said an employee told everyone the store was abotu to open and a melee ensued inwhich my wife was almost trampled (she's only 5'-0" tall), nearly ran over with shopping carts and left with bruises by mostly women fighting to get in (her words). i was in line with her a couple years back at best buy to get a wii (we did) and it was completely organized, no voilence and very orderly. my wife said walmart had no one outside to control the crowd or no one that she could see and felt they did nothing to prevent the worst experience she's ever had. despite the cowardly disgracefule behavior of the poeple involved, walmart will likely hang for the lack of control for what was an obviously preventable accident. needless to say, both my wife and i will never shop walmart again black friday morning. sounds bad to say but i am thankful that both of us were not there with the kids, i was at home watching the kids. i fear what i would have done in reaction to people carelessly endangering my wife and or kids. from what i saw and heard (i met up with my wife at walmart at 6am) i have to say i felt walmart behaved incompently. there were police there but they were marking receipts on the way out. who the hell has cops doing that and not ensuring crowd control and safety? lets not stereotype everyone out this morning, some of us are hard working normal type folks just looking to save a few bucks due to decreased spending. were not the mindless masses, not the scum of the earth, etc. there are no doubt plenty of proper good folks mixed up in todays shopping mess. lets pelase refrain from lumping everyone into categories. |

Here's the problem though
What do you charge those responsible with his death with? HOW do you prove it was this person, this person and this person. There were over 2000 people in line. I would be beside myself if I thought I had anything to do with it. I am however, alot different caliber (as it seems nost of us on here are) that I wouldn't place myself in that situation to begin with. |

I worked at walmart about 8 years ago or so. My first day was black friday and i was a cart pusher. I saw fights inside the store as well as outside the store. Grown adults yelling at each other over stupid widgets that dont matter. On a lighter note though, i made out like a bandit because most people are too stupid to remember they put their stereo or PS2 on the bottom of the cart. that was a good Christmas for me and my family that year lol |

Perfect example of why these things happen. This is plain wrong. No matter HOW you slice it. We are not talking about a case of soda that someone left underneath their cart at the market.

it is thier fault to a certain degree. it's thier property, thier responsibility to ensure a secure shopping environment. i've done the line thing before and other stores had varying policies and means to deal with the crowd and lines. NEVER have i scene this free for all anywhere but walmart.
if you trip on thier curb and get hurt, thier libel. if someone gets trampled, you bet thier on the hook for it and rightly share in the blame. they essentially contributed to the accident by NOT managing the situation.

Once those people walk through those doors the store is technically responsible for their well beiing. Thats why you have state and federal regulations and how to stack things, how to store food, millions of dollars in insurance and everything else. Though i think people are morons for their actions, the store needs to regulate their events in some way to where you dont have to worry about being crushed to death by a bunch of mindless retail zombies. |

I am not saying that they shouldn't (SOMEONE needs to be held responsible). Unfortunately, histroy has taught us that it is the stores and the corporation who will pick up the blame and fit the bill. |
