So i dont get this. Why do people use the "make an offer" option on a BIN item on ebay and just decline everything that comes through.
For example, i wanted to pic up a few Atari games priced from $1-$3. I made what i thought was very reasonable offers ($1.25 for a $2 listing $2 for a $2.99 listing) only to wake up to "declined" on every single item. This has happened to me before with other stuff, and i just dont get it. These people then seem all offended you offered them less than what they have listed (am i supposed to offer them more???) Then i get messages like "man i really cant budge on this item, but if you pay the full amount ill give you a good price on shipping" gimme a break. This sellers greed for the extra 25cents just cost him a couple sales. If you dont want offers then dont list them as such. |

Yeah, the best offer option on ebay has never worked for me. They always refuse. I remember seeing a pair of Police reunion show tickets on ebay for Dodger Stadium last year for $150 OBO. I offered the guy $140 and he refused! WTF? Don't even bother using the best offer option if you aren't even going to consider the offers.

I am sorry to hear that people use this tactic to lure you in and then turn around and feel offended that you made such an offer. I agree with DarthBrett, "Don't even bother using the best offer option if you aren't even going to consider the offers."

I've had some success with best offer before, typically I'll ask for $1-$5 less. Sounds like you ran into someone not so easy to deal with

I sold my PSP w/box inst manual, a carry case, hard plastic protector, 10 games and about 15 movies. I had it about $500 with a best offer.
I had 2 offers, 1 for $25 and 1 for $50. I mean, come on, why insult a seller with such a stupid ass offer. This was about a year after they came out and still around $250 in stores. I finally had someone email me offering a good amount for just the games and movies. I then took the system to slackers (local gamestop type place) and traded it in. |

i feel reserves are pretty crappy too. if you want "X" for something, and no less....start your auction at "X".

Yea same here I've used it maybe five times and get anywhere from 10% to 30% off. As for acting offended by your offer, thats just lame.

As far as I can tell, a lot of times the best offer feature is to gauge what an item would go for.
It has worked out OK for me as well for both buying and selling, as far as selling goes, I've never turned down a reasonable offer. On the other hand, I do not get reserves... just make your opening bid the absolute lowest that you are willing to part with the item for. |
