Internet stalkers please keep away from this thread! j\k It should be a none issue as I doubt many of us still live where we grew up. But I thought it would be a fun topic to let tankers give a chance to brag about where they grew up. It's that time of year where most of us have to make that pilgrimage back home so it got me thinking. So do your hail from the Peanut Capital of the world or the dankest city the mid west has to offer? If you have pic please post as it makes for a more interesting thread!
Anyways... I grew up in a pretty ridiculous place. It's called Solvang, and it's a small town in California that desperatley wants to be a theme park. It was a town established by Danish people that decided to capitalize on it's "heritage" back in the 50's by transforming the whole town into a tourist trap. This is the weird little town I grew up in. |

I used to go to Solvang all of the time as a little kid! Haven't been there in over 10 years, though. I was actually born at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood (Mom's family doctor practiced there, she grew up in Westchester/Marina Del Rey), but was raised in Northridge, right in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.

Lived there from birth til 86 Loved the wooded lot beside our house. I stayed outside playing GI Joe or just basically playing in the woods. I had a natural spring and a huge dirt mound to play in. Rockwell, NC Lived there from 86-96 I had close to 20 acres of woods to play in and hunt. I loved that house and the land. Both of these places are considered rural, but I loved it. |

I personally grew up in Arivaca, AZ – on a small ranch. Arivaca is a small southern AZ town renowned for its abundance of old aging 60’s hippies and their families (who are all turning out the be modern day hippies) -- when I was younger a lot of them lived in old school buses and tepees and frequently ran around buck naked and high as a kite – it was entertaining… or something… Arivaca, is also known for the quality of the pot that those hippies produce. Along with its abundance of bikers, drug runners, general dregs of society, meth labs per capita, overwhelming number of people on foodstamps, being a favorite stop for illegal aliens entering the country from Mexico, cows, lizards, scorpions, tarantulas, dirt, dust, and being a place I do not miss at all Anyway here's a few sunset pictures I took when I still lived there, so I guess it's at least got cool looking sunsets goign for it... |
