starbucks cafe verona-- grind whole beans fresh; lots of cream & sugar for one cup. Then brew coca tea for the another cup. , does the trick all day long. The coca numbs your throat but worth it.

I've discovered an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe at Whole Foods and I am spoiled now. The best coffee I've ever had.
It's expensive - like $15CDN/lb but I don't drink coffee every day. On average, I'll have coffee 3 times a week and only a couple of large cups on those days. So a pound of the beans will last me 4-6 weeks. Not too much, I think, in exchange for a coffee I can truly enjoy. I buy the beans whole and yes - the difference in grinding your own is significant. I've never roasted my own - that seems like too much trouble for me to go to. But a friend of mine roasts his in a popcorn popper and swears by it. I dunno. Also, I use a Bodum French Press. I picked one up a few months ago and haven't used my drip since - unless I need to serve 6 or 8 or more people here at the house. Again, the difference b/w the press and the drip is noticeable. So, whole beans + French press = $$$$$$$ As for what i put in it - a bit of sugar and cream or a bit of cream or black. Never sugar alone for me. Another friend recommended evaporated (not condensed) milk as an alternative to cream. And I actually liked that, too. The yirgacheffe is a light roast so it packs a fair amount of caffeine. If I am having a coffee later at night or after dinner/with dessert, I'll opt for a dark french roast. I don't like Starbucks - that's all I used to drink, really. But they overroast so many of their blends that I just gave up on them. And I used to think their Holiday/Christmas blend was amazing but now I'm spoiled and can't drink it. And I'm not generally averse to dark roasts - i love the French roast I get. It's just now I know why people will jokingly call it Charbucks. If I am going to have a cup of something cheaper, I keep some Community Coffee on hand. It's really a pretty good every day coffee that I was raised on back in Louisiana. I have my folks send me a couple pounds every now and then just to keep on hand. |

Oh heck yeah, I love my daily coffee! I can get pretty cranky without it - oftentimes, I'll get a dull little headache later in the morning if I skip it. Guess that's what we call "addiction", eh?
1) How much Coffee (cups or pots) do you drink on average in a day? I would say 4-5 cups. I also usually have a cup of tea after supper (I love my tea, but for the morning it's coffee only). 2) Do you drink your Coffee with anything in it? (I personally like it without anything in it...as I prefer to taste the brewed goodness) Just a little bit of milk. I used to be a big cream and sugar guy but I cut the sugar out because of the calories. Cream was just a pain to keep in the fridge, so I switched to milk. I prefer it now - cream just tastes to thick to me now that I'm used to milk. I will OCCASSIONALLY put a bit of sugar it a coffee if the mood suits me - usually if I'm hung over! 3) Do you grind your own beans at home? If so do You think it makes a difference in taste/quality? Yes, definitely. Freshly ground coffee always tastes better to me. I also use a french press, which I prefer over coffee makers. 4) Do You have a favorite brand or flavor? (either whole bean or ground) Brand, no. I was a big Tim Horton's guy for a while, and still get the urge now and then (it's a Canadian thing, apparently). Starbucks is nice too, sometimes. I seem to prefer a nice dark French roast, usually. 5) Lastly for now...do You do espresso too? Not really my thing. I do enjoy a latte now and then, especially a chai latte... Heh, yeah, I was never a real coffee drinker until I joined the Navy. Now I'm addicted!

I've recently weened myself off coffee and have switched over to Green Tea. It doesn't pack the same punch, but it gets the job done. It also help that all the coffee in our office tastes terrible.

(either whole bean or ground) DD is my favorite to get fresh, but if I'm brewing at work it's 8 O'Clock original. 5) Lastly for now...do You do espresso too? No. |
