My favorite thing is when your looking for a few figures and you find a guy on ebay that has all of them for a great price and the shipping isnt bad. But then you read the small print "$5 for first item $3.75 for each additional item" WTF is that all about?

for bidding, the make an offer option sometimes work, and I end up saving some $$
But wehen selling, I am not a fan of it, but it seems some like the option. I have something listed now that I had at $500, and was offered between $100-$150, seriously do people really think I would be willing to take over half of what I am listing it for??? Finally I got a decent offer, but am still contemplating it, as it isn't as high as I would like, but I need some extra cash for xmas. |

I've had tremendous success picking up loose Joe accessories with the best offer option.
if a seller really wants to maximize their best offer option, they should set the starting price a little higher because any buyers natural inclination will be to offer you less to get a value. so, if you want to sell it for $2, list it for $3.50, and let the buyer think they have negotiated you down to $2 . |

I have to say that the "best offer" option has worked well for me in the past. I have gotten a great deal on guitar pickups and even a few joes that way. The only time it hasn't worked was when I submitted an offer and someone went ahead and used the "Buy It Now" option before I got a response from the seller.

I agree with the issue with reserves and Best Offer options. I've had good luck with BestOffer. But really it's no different than tankers saying "Shoot me an offer!" I hate when people say that after I ask what they're looking for. Just tell me what you want for it.

I tell people to shoot me offers because I don't know what it's worth. If I think it's worth $20 and tell someone $20, they might think I'm crazy and just walk off. If they did offer me $15 after I tell them to shoot me an offer, then I'd know that we are close. As for Best Offer on Ebay, I've used that a lot to get a bunch of stuff all from one seller. If I offer on multiple items, I find them more likely to go for it. As for when I sell, I'll put a higher price and let people talk me down. I'll put a higher price so that if someone was wanting it that bad, then they can have it, but if they offer me a lower amount but close to what I'm willing to let it go for, then I sell it to them, or else make a counter offer to them.

Reserve prices suck, but I do understand why people use them (I don't use them I just use BIN). People will bid on a 99 cent item and run over and above the reserve price, but if you start the auction at your reserve price it usually never sells. Happens all the time....
I accept offers, but I will get offended if they offer me a low amount. I will decline in a heartbeat. I have a lot of $3 items. Everyday I get offers of $2 $1 and sometimes even lower, and all they want is the one item! That is crazy. If they are buying a lot of items I am more willing to take lower offers, but that only goes so far too. |

I have had decent luck with Best Offer. I found a store that works with me - I bought the McQuarrie R2 and C3PO, Doctor Who, and SeaLab figures for much less than they were asking. Of course I have had those instances where everything was declined, or they just ignored my offer and the item went unsold.
