Greetings Tankers,
While it is late this evening, I figured I might ask a question for all you action movie fans out there. What are the top ten action movies of all time in your opinion? I will go first. 10.) Tango and Cash. Yeah, I know that a lot of people don't like this movie, but I like the dynamic of Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. The tough guy and the nerd team up to bring down a criminal organization. Good film! 9.) Raw Deal. Anyone who has seen this one knows that mafia types should think twice whenever Schwarzenegger has infiltrated their organization. I especially like the shoot-out scene at the end in the mobster's club. 8.) Kuffs. Yeah, I know. This movie is actually funny for an action movie, but Christian Slater pulls the role off very well. I was not aware of how San Fransisco's Patrol Special program works. 7.) Mad Max II. Post-apocalyptic wasteland. Shortage of food, fuel and water. Yup. Survival of the fittest and some pretty nifty vehicles to play ball with. While I realize that many folks like Mad Max I more, I happen to prefer the second film because of the villains here. I mean, Lord Humongous is the Ayotollah of Rock N' Rolla, is he not? 6.) Death Race (2008 edition). Yeah, I know that many people didn't like this movie, but I thought it was freaking amazing. The best surprise was the ending of it, but when the Dreadnaught came crashing out of the warehouse? Holy SHIT!!!!!!!!! 5.) Commando. Yup. Explosions. Cool weaponry. Arnold's attitude. This is the stuff that stirs testosterone. There is something to be said about Arnold's single-handed ability to destroy hundreds of terrorists before finally rescuing his kidnapped daughter, and he does it while cracking jokes throughout the film. 4.) Big Trouble In Little China. I have a hard time marginalizing this film into the "category" of action since there are themes of fantasy and science fiction present, I do thoroughly enjoy this film start to finish. It's the kind that I could watch 2-3 times in a week, and not get annoyed with it. 3.) Deathwish 1-3. Yeah, I know that part 3 is the best, but part 2 was not too bad given that he was in Los Angeles, and part 1 was great because of its simplicity. 3.) Lethal Weapon. There is something really funny about this pair-up between Danny Glover and Mel Gibson. Glover is the down-to-earth cop who is matched with Gibson, who happens to be a real whackjob who beats criminals at their own game. I like the part where Gibson handcuffs himself to the roof-jumper, and says, "Do you really wanna jump?!?!?! COME ON!! LET'S JUMP!!!" AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!! 2.) Die Hard. This is the quintessential American action movie. Bruce Willis is a NY cop in LA, and his Christmas gets temporarily cancelled by some East German terrorists. The lines and fight sequences are great, and Hans Gruber is probably one of the top five villains in movie history. 1.) Dirty Harry. Clint Eastwood inspired an entire generation of Americans to learn how to shoot back. Violent crime and armed robbery were rampant in the 1970s, and several reviews of this film indicate its popularity was based on the vindication that many audience members felt when Eastwood waxed violent criminals. |

Aliens for sure...the last hour or so is just non stop action, but without the ridiculous explosions and other nonsense that tend to drive todays action films...i'd even put Aliens as one of the all-time best films (probably not top ten though)
