Well zero hr is here for me, tommorow I get orthroscopic surgery on my left shoulder. I tore my Labrum which is apparently something that helps hold the shoulder together in conjunction with the rotator cuff. The thing that blow is I was scheduled for this on Jan 13th, and have been dealing with the pain since Sept! Four Doc's later and I found one that I was comfortable with...so..the time off is actually a blessing in disguise, long story, but I seriously dont want to do this....Im not afraid my there gonna screw it up, or anything Im confident with this dr. All my blood came back healthy, xrays and EKG's were that of a "healthy young man". You want to know why Im terrified??? I CANT DEAL WITH BEING PASSED OUT IN A ROOM FULL OF STRANGERS!!!.....Seriously, your talking to someone who still sleeps with chinese stars on his night stand and swords under his bed....Slomins, ADT etc....that was my idea!!! Anyway, just a little bit of night before anxiety and I had to vent. To anyone not feeling well, and oddly enough there is a few of us under the weather on the boards tonite..feel better and atleast they arent gonna put you under!!! Anyway, hopefully an arm sling will be a good conversation starter with the ladies, it will also be a good excuse to spend more time ordering Joes online.......See ya after I get out of the Hostel, I mean hospital!

Good luck tomorrow, it's not a big deal.......we do these all the time, just make sure you take your percocet every 4 hours, refresh your cryocuff and leave your swords at home under your bed, hospital security tends to have a problem with these!

Man - surgery is a breeze - I have had my shoulder fixed, by knee scoped, a umbilical hernia patched up and the latest my tonsils removed...no sweat man.
BTW - the labrum is a piece of connective tissue that forms socket that the head of the humerus rotates in. It is pretty important for joint stability since there is very little bony contact in the shoulder joint. |

Good luck, this kind of surgery is really not as bad as you'd think. I've had surgery on both my shoulders.
Right shoulder was a pretty intense reconstruction were I had to be opened up. Got a cool scar! Left shoulder I've had 2 arthroscopic procedures, the last one doc said he removed almost all the soft tissue "capsule" that surrounds the ball of the joint and took some of my clavicle. After the last surgery on my left the doc told me that by the time I'm in my 40's I'll need to have a complete joint replacement. I'm in the process of building a time machine so at age 39 I can avoid all of this. |

I think surgeries are sick. I go once a year to have Lipoma's removed. I just had a surgery in January to get lipomas removed from the back of my leg and lower back. You will feel so much better after you've healed.
I like how you are hooked up with an IV and they cart you to the operating room and make you get on the operating table and then...then you wake up with stitches. A simple turn of a knob on your IV and you are out. I do not get sick (I travelled alot so I built up antibodies to almost everything) so this is my only time to rest at home from work and school. My only advice is too mark your which shoulder you are having surgery on with the surgery pen they have in case your surgeon forgets to mark it. Those guys are like Terminators with no emotions

Good luck man, hopefully the MENSA Drones aren't too cold with you, and give you a nice bliss script to get you through the following weeks.

Hey PitViper. Good Luck with your surgery tomorrow. It'll be a piece of cake. I was always afraid of being knocked out..but have been through a scary tracheostomy to having a tube put down my throat to having a hernia patch down there.. and the stuff they give you is so strong, you immediately go out and won't remember a thing. The best part is the Darvocet 'pink pill' afterwards...mmmm that stuff is good you won't feel a thing for as long as you're on that after the surgery. If you tell them you're nervous as soon as you get in the room, they give you the oxygen mask, and it will help relax and they knock you out soonafter.

Best thing about having this type of surgery is that you get to go home later that day and don't have to suffer hospital food.
Seriously, I'm an old pro at shoulder surgeries and can tell you that its alright. Let us know how you are when you're able to get back on the tank. |
