Why is the world the way it is?
So I finally get my dad to want to go to a movie, Flash of Genius, and it's no longer in the theaters. WTF! It's only been out for 3 weeks. We had planed on going to see it as a father son thing, and that is almost impossible to do. The movie is about the little guy getting jacked by the big guy and fighting back, most people like that stuff don't they? I saw that Beverly Hills Chihuahua is the #1 movie as of today. I'm sorry, but that is some mindless crap that will not enhance your intelligence, it may make you dumber. I don't know about you guys and I might be the only one on here that thinks this way, but why is it any decent film makes no money, and the retarded ones last forever? Death Race would be another, I found it alright, but was extremely a waste of my $10 to see it in the theater, yet it's still in theaters... It takes me a lot of convincing to get my dad out to the movies as he is getting up there in age and only likes to see movies that most guys in there late 60's would like, I'm 27. We have 4 things we agree on, religion, car's, history, and baseball. Anyone else have the same rant....

Hollywood does not determine how long a movie stays in theaters based on how good it is. The staying power of a movie is decided based on ticket sales, which is ultimately up to the general public.
I think one reason bad movies do better in theaters than thought provoking films is that most people don't want to have to think about what they are watching. They just want to be entertained. I apply this same theory to the reason crappy pop albums sell better than albums by bands that record songs that actually have some meaning behind them. |

Yeah, I know, but three weeks? I know this my be small but it still brought in 3.7 mil... I have another half dozen friends wanting to see it, we are all car guys... Auto history is lost, just like war history I guess....
You have a good point there... Ever since I was a kid, something that made me think, was better then a retarded comedy... And I also agree with you on the music too....

It could be worse. Some flicks are so bad that it didn't even make it to the big screen.

Careful OP. Joe fans don't like it when you use your mind to question things.
I don't know why people would see Beverly Hills Chihuahua either. It's just more proof of the de-evolution of society. That movie you, and your dad wanted to see looked good. The previews reminded me of 'Tucker'. Did you see that?Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) Last edited by delta; 10-19-2008 at 03:04 PM.. |

I think alot of it also has to do with misleading previews.Previews usually make the flick out to be something it's not drawing in the huge crowds but leaving them disappointed, take M Night Shayamalan as one example. The peviews to his last two movies instantly make you think of HORROR flick...........then you see it and well IMO they sucked.Drwn in big crowds early to see a good horror flick.Lady in the water and the happening were both pre-viewed this way.Thats just one example. The pre-views to kingdom of the crystal skull looked cool-movie sucked.Death race previews also looked cool-movie meh.

Did you see that?Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) I hate the big "Three".. they have always given us crapy cars, stole from the little guy and given to big business... But thats just some of the little tidbits of auto history I know... I could type for ever of how much they have screwed us.... And dont get me wrong... I still like films like Iron Man, Star wars, and other stuff...

Same for the new Indie film, expected a ton more from it...
