I think the last "Wave" I really dug was the beginnings of the "Gangsta Era" NWA, Ice-T, Early Snoop, Dre, Ice Cube (Before he started doing Kids Movies). I have to be honest all I hear and see these days are people trying to be the next 2 Live Crew or the next Wanna be Thug. It's just lost the heart it had. Even the early Gangster stuff was about what life on the streets was like, I was in a rough neighborhood at the time, and I related.
Recap, the Pioneer era was great, the early Gangsta era was great. Since then not so much. Oh and how could you not like Raising Hell or Momma said knock you out?

ok, em is talented at what he does. I like Hip-Hop, Metal, Classic Rock and everything in between but I could never, never, never agree that any Hip-Hop song could be considered a "best written song"....never.
Old school Rap, Metal, Rock, and especially New Wave was very original. No matter what style of music you listen too these days it's hard to find anyone who is original. everyone sounds like somebody else. I do not hear anyone on the radio who sounds like "Journey" or "Beastie Boys" or "Devo"...that's right Devo damn it! LOL I do like the way some bands mix things up tho...Black Eyed Peas do a fine job of mixing Hip-Hop with Rock, and Linkin Park with Metal and Hip-Hop. You know whats super cool? Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden. That was such a punk thing to do, awesome! |
