I know that most of us work for a living, but I have to ask everyone a question.
What do you do when you have a boss from hell? I know that many of you may be blessed with intelligent, thoughtful and sophisticated bosses. However, many of us, LIKE ME, are working for incompetent, deceptive, ignorant and arrogant creatures that are still considered human beings. What does a decent person do when he is forced to work for a fracking idiot who would die of starvation in another country???? As an aside conversation, what kind of boss do you have? Do you have any horror stories to share, or has it been a bed of roses for you? |

I had a boss who had a very big ego and wasn't afraid to show it. The funny thing about him was that he was always getting in trouble with his boss, who ran the group home I worked at. Once, he really pissed off my wife, who happened to work with me at that time. She was so mad she didn't speak to him for a week, and then when he pushed her to talk to him, she let him have it with both barrels. he left the company about 6 months later, but was rehired almost a year ago to run the house. I knew that he'd be even more insufferable, and started making plans to leave the company. This was after nearly 8 years with the agency and having the equivalent of 2-3 months of time off yearly and an awesome benefits package. He fired one of our employees for sleeping on the job on an overnight shift-after he saw her sleeping while he was hiding in the bushes outside the window at 4AM! He was very condescending and rude to everyone. I finally got another job and left in August. I'm also going back to school so I can get a better job. In lees than 2 years, I will have my RN license. Hang in there, suck it up when you have to, and keep your eyes open for something better.

Ah, a saboteur after my own heart. I was going to suggest a turd in his coffee cup , ala the movie, "Flight of the Intruder" with Willem Dafoe and Danny Glover where they bomb Hanoi with A-6 Intruders. (Flight of the Intruder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) BTW, we had central computer terminal we all used in a shop I used to work, "someone" (a good buddy of mine at the time) made our douche-bag boss's booking photo from when he got picked up on DUI as the desktop background. :O That took him down a notch or two. .

this is great... something from all the posts in here apply to all of us. My situation happens to also have LB, BB & U(ltimate)BB.
Make sure you let everyone know that YOU know, statements of employees, with the intent of malice in regard of other employees are illegal and grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination. He's right though: go for their F*CK#N THROATS. When you turn into a dependable, consistent productive employee, sometimes it just isn't enough. You're complaining about your boss. Like they said in here: do you suck at work & actually wonder why your in the sh_t? Are you unwilling to admit your boss's job is actually kinda hard? Have no faith in his bosses with the choice they made? If the root of your boss being a jerk is because monumental jerks wanted their mini me placed there, that is just the suck. It doesn't suck, this is the special kind of bunk weako why me suckness. the suck! Have no doubt though, our intent here is still to help. So BB is using abusive language, pulling me to the side to tell me stuff like "I heard you were really slacking blah blah blah" Yes, I 1000 yard stared them right in the eyes and answered with courtesy/politeness and was respectful. The LB's would see this and they took it as a sign of weakness (idiots). So they jump on the bandwagon. I guess they didn't like me because I was DISRUPTIVE. I nerdedly memorized the employee handbook and would recite it outloud EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAD A CHANCE. "Why yes I can stay. According to the Employee Handbook Paragraph 7 sentence 4 Blah Blah". I was just digging myself into a deeper hole. I dig holes and pop out of them just to get a rise out of surprising people in my spare time. I am soon being put into situations that are set up to have me fail. I bust my ass actually getting the job done 4out of 5 times. The speeches I give for my failure with promise to be a better worker are laughable. I chose to accomplish complete failure when they send me to an event where the parking area I can access is 100 yards away from the door. They know I'm gonna be square and use it, even though I can park in front of the door because nobody parks there 7am and the place opens 9am. But this day was special! There were electricians parked in the front and there was no way BB LB UBB knew it. It was in the middle of a heatwave and LB said I was Man enough to not take a Handtruck. What a dick. 48 packages averaging 30lbs each. Handle with care. So I finish the job in 5minutes and walk to a Target nearby and buy Beachhead and open him up and play with him for 45 minutes. During the disciplinary meeting I was in upon return to base, called by the LB's with BB present, my replies were, "sorry. yes sir. I didn't know that" etc... My list was growing. I set up a meeting with HR. Not to file a complaint, but rather to inform them of my situation and to show them I really liked coming to work everyday. "Ma'am, I think you're right that I should file a complaint, but at this time I would like to keep production at the rate its going. I believe my superiors have faith in me and just want me to be the best employee I can be. I understand that they are under alot of pressure, their jobs are hard. I'm confident I'm the man for the job and only wish to show I can get it done. This is for the benefit of the company. So I only wish to have you informed should the time come when these allegations against me could result in the loss of employment. This is what pays my bills, keeps a roof over my head. My livelihood. Please respect my wishes to keep this confidential at this time". When UBB called me and said "we need to talk. Maybe you're not cut out for this type of work. I keep getting complaints of your work ethic". I went straight into HR, and had them call him into the office to have a meeting. He walks in, says "whats up Ma'lou" and is shocked to see me sitting there. I open up discussion. "This is messed up. I have literally broken my back with merely the hope of showing I belong here. It is getting difficult to keep my morale up. After feeling pretty good about myself for being able to contribute to the company by completing my assigned tasks, I am instead bombarded with more and more tasks on a daily basis. I understand this is a busy company, but after showing I can handle up to 7 stops in a shift it gets really hard when you don't hear a compliment. The average employee has 3 stops in a route. I'm up to the challenge even though I'm not given the proper amount of staff and wake up sore the next day. My life now is practically wake up 5am, go home 7pm to sleep and get up again at 5am. My wife misses me, all I can reply is we're getting out of debt soon. A mere pat on the back would energize me to insane levels of productivity. Instead I'm met with this BULLSHIT? I'm sorry, but I think I've earned the right to use the only word in existence that describes this situation: BULLSHIT! Frankly, I'm disappointed in you, UBB". This out of date company is now up to date. All kinds of bulletins posted everywhere, Mandatory classes in accident/harassment prevention, overtime regulated with a guarantee of 11 hours between shifts jerks canned left and right. Oh, and the part where everytime I see my boss, I'm practically chasing him as he runs away. Problem solved, it's been a year now. It's nice to not have to watch your back and just work. That's positive disruption for you. You can do it without the evil plotting I did cuz you're in a government job |

I don't think I've ever had an unreasonable boss. I've been an unreasonable employee, but that's about it.

I had this happen at my summer job.
The boss was a drunk asshole who verbally abused and intimidated employees every day. He started pushing me around and making me work overtime but clocking out so it never showed up on the books. The other employees and I got sick of him real quick and wanted to see him gone. Since he was in a position where he could be fired unless he did something really stupid he thought he was untouchable. Anyhow, I started sucking up to him in hopes of getting close enough to dig up some dirt. Eventually he got to trust me enough to where I was his right hand man and let me in on some of his secrets. He stole from the company, spied on women employees in the bathroom, and hid liquor in his desk. On my last day I sung by his superior's office and clued him in on everything he was doing. The super hated my boss to and gave me a paid day off as a reward for giving him what he needed to can my boss. Moral of the Story: Get close, dig dirt, and slip the knife in their back on your last day.
