What, no conclusion??? How does the story end???
Nah, I know how it ended. Not to say I told you so or anything, but I knew Dallas would play better at home. 5-4 OT win by Dallas is not terrible, but it did show how fragile Detroit's defense still is. Rafalski was out for most of the second period for some reason and Detroit's defense turned silly soft. I guess it's still a very fragile balance back there. And kudos for Dallas for jumping all over it. The one bright spot was Osgood (yeah, I can hardly believe I just wrote that too). He had a great game with some phenominal saves. Detroit would have been embarrassed had he not stopped everything but the nasty deflections and perfect plays. Play of the game was the point blank stop by Turco on Hossa in the third. 9 out of 10 times he buries that puck. I guess for Marty, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. |

dude, Detroit drew alot of stupid penalties and Dallas made them pay for it. Dallas did a real good job of just constantly wearing down Detroit past the blueline as well.

As I said, Detroit's defense is still very fragile, and with Rafalski out most of the second, Dallas jumped on it. Kudos to them. They were fast and worked hard, and thereby gained the blue line often and had Detroit's D chasing them around. And yes, they did draw some penalties, but only scored once on the power play, exactly the same as Detroit did. So that part was a draw really.
I thought it was funny that Osgood had 6 minutes worth of the penalties himself. 4 of those came from another "accidental" high stick in the face of Ribeiro. At least Ribeiro held his cool and didn't take a full baseball swing at Ozzie this time... |

yeah but those penalties also wore down Detroit's D. there are advantages to the extra man aside from scoring. eventually that pressure adds up and tires not only your defense but redline as well since they spend so much time chasing the puck and trying to get it out of their zone.

Good - Wild scored 6 goals for the win!
Bad - I managed to be out of the room for ALL of them! On goal 5 I realized I had missed every goal of the game (kitchen, bathroom, etc) which is usually pretty understandable 'cause the Wild score like 1.57 goals a game. I got up to grab a Kleenex, heard the announcer, and could not f**king believe I just missed goal 6! I remember the same type of thing happening when I lived down in Texas watching the Stars. All those "kitchen goals" as my buddy strarted calling them, were definitely crucial to the Stars Cup run. As a hockey fan I am proud to do my part, no matter what it takes... |
