I really enjoyed watching the Winter Classic and my Red Wings did not dissapoint. After going down 3-1 they poured it on and won in such a cool setting. The 6-4 outcome was a nice ending to a hard fought game. I really wish the league would look into the popularity of these and try to have more of them. The request for tickets alone should show the NHL that this is very popular (240,000) making it the hardest sport ticket to get in Chicago history! Hopefully we will get more of these cool games!
On the popularity issue, a lot of people have argued that if they held these games more often, they'd lose the novelty that makes them so popular. I'd say there is some validity to that, but I definitely think they should hold it every year on New Years Day, in a new large venue in a major hockey city. I'd love to see an East game between Boston and Toronto next season in Toronto, perhaps at a CFL stadium or the Sky Dome (that is the baseball park in Toronto, right?). I think Boston's season this year has earned that. And Toronto is a showcase NHL city that will have a million fans trying to get tickets for sure. |

Well I didn't get to watch the game last night, but it looks like it was a good one. My man, Owen Nolan scored again. Unfortunately, just like the game against the Sharks, the Wild gave up a late tieing goal. From the replys on ESPN that SO goal by Pavel Datsyuk looked sick.
With Gaborik out of a Wild sweater for possibily forever, hopefully these two well played games agaist elite teams can give the Wild a little confidence boost. Doesn't look like an impact trade is going to happen, but at least the team will have an extra $8 million to spend in the offseason that isn't locked up in Gaborik anymore. |

I would have to say that is encouraging news for your Wild Capt. Hopefully they can build on it and start stringing some wins together. |

Owen Nolan to the rescue again as he scored the Wild's only 2 goals against the Avs last night. That's 4 goals in his last 3 games since he's come back from injury (8 in his last 9 games I think). Now if someone else could figure out how to score, the Wild might be able to get to that elusive 3rd goal per game...
I think the Gaborik news was good for the team. Now they're neither waiting for him to come back and save them or have the distraction of all the trade rumors. Just left to hunker down and play as a team with the guys they got. Unfortunately that might not be enough to make the playoffs, but we'll see. |

Yeah the Wild have been playing with a lot of energy in the last 5 games, even the game they lost to the Flames. Still need scoring help, but their trade options are pretty limited right now.
The only thing might be a "salary cap" trade, as Gaborik comes off the books after this year, and another cap strapped team might want to unload a similiar salaried player with a more time left on his contract that they don't want to be tied down by anymore. Trying to keep the hope alive... That's a lot of old Wings/Avs baggage to be still carrying around Tall Creeper. Roy and Lemieux (look out Sharks!) are not even in the NHL anymore and the Avs probably won't make the playoffs. I have no love of the Avs either, and used to hate that team when the Stars had to get past them in the playoffs, but the only guy really left to hate on is Adam Foote. Its not possible to hate Joe Sakic, plus he doesn't really play anymore anyway. |

Well I guess the Wild's new plan is, if they can't score don't let their opponent score either...

It's another win even if it doesn't look real pretty it still works. I watched the last period and saw the Bruins trying to throw everyone forward pulling the goalie of course.

Yeah 2 shutouts on the road is sweet. The Wild have been basically taking on all the division leaders lately, and doing pretty well. Unfortunately without some more legitemate scorers in the line-up, I'm afraid its just treading water in the end.
