TheBaroness,
Half of your post is why people hate Red Wings fans. Wings fans think the Pens only won when the Wings played poorly. I can tell you they played so poorly because the Pens outplayed them so badly the last two games. They kept shooting from the blue line, instead of blowing past everyone and trying to actually get a goal, because they simply couldn't. They played the best they could, and it wasn't enought to beat the Pens the last two games. I've never once said Detroit wasn't a very good team, and I've always given them credit when they earned it and beat the Pens in games the last two finals. The truth is, the Wings are a very good team, and a great franchise, and will be back next year. That's the difference between true Pens fans and Wings fans, we don't make excuses and complain about the way the games was called, nor do we say the Wings can only win when the Pens "didn't play half as good as they can." I have and will continue to rub the win into Wings fans for another day or two to have some fun, and because some of the guys have been so funny with some of the things they've posted in this thread. It's all just for grins, and I think everyone has taken it pretty well on both sides. I look forward to next year's thread. Mark my words, Detroit will do everything they can to sign Scuderi in the offseason. They can keep Hossa (although I don't think they have the money to sign him). Quote:
but what do their contracts look like? DET has a reputatuion for signing longer contrtacts at lower rates. this may keep them saddled in the motor city and even worse there may not be anywhere for these guys to go. I am waiting to see what Holland does w/ DET and the "new realities" of the NHL.
like in 04? Yeah, I don't know what kind of deals uber-GM Holland will come up with this time, but I imagine he'll work it good over the summer. Time to dump the dead weight. When the Wings have won, everybody contributed. That didn't happen this time. Are we delusional? Yes. But at least our team has a chance pretty much every year. The Canads, not so much... |

First off, congrats to the Pens fans, you guys earned this win.
Wings didn't play like they wanted it bad enough in game 7, and it showed. We'll be back next year (So will Pitt probably, lol), so we'll see what happens. If the Wings had won, I would not be shoving it down anyone's throat. When they won last year, I gave my props to the Pens, same as I will this year. Pens wanted it more. Bottom line. I can deal with my team losing, it happens. The Red Wings still have the best franchise in hockey (one could argue in sports), and they prove it over and over. Of course the fans in Detroit booed Bettman. He has gone on record with his love for the Pens. He is supposed to be for the NHL, not a team. The man is a turd. I don't blame him for my team's loss, although the refs ignored a lot of things (and some on the Wings, as well). I beleve that players win championships, not refs. I have no doubt it will be hotly debated over the next year. What sucks is now we're gonna have to hear just how "amazing" Crosby is ALL YEAR LONG. I hate when sports annoint players like that. He's a good player, but has a long way before coming great. Bettman and the NHL got what they want, their golden boy hoisting the Cup. Congrats to them. And it's funny to see Pitt fans blasting Wings fans, when last year, Pitt fans did exactly the same thing. It sucks to lose, that's the bottom line. The Red Wings had a GREAT season, and I thank them for it. I expect some changes will be made, and we'll be back next year. And the outcome will be different.

I would LOVE to break down the idiots who say the Wings are too old.
Those OLD Red Wings have won the cup FOUR times since 1996. How many times has YOUR team won since then? Exactly so kiss my ass, the Red Wings are better than your team, FOR OLD MEN. See, GOOD SPORTS don't go around shoving shit in people's faces. If the Red Wings had won, I wouldn't come here and throw it out at everyone like a two year old. I would be happy indeed but also send congrats to the other team. BOTH teams wanted it, only one showed how badly the past two games, and it was not the Wings. The Wings did not play even half as good as they can. They let the Pens walk all over them. They kept shooting from the blue line, a stupid cop out move, instead of blowing past everyone and trying to actually get a goal, and Pens players were all over the puck as a result. The Red Wings were barely even there the past two games. The Pens had some horseshoes with the goal going off the post but they deserved the cup because Detroit didn't play like a team that wanted to win. The Wings are MORE experienced and MORE talented than the Pens. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot and doesn't know anything about hockey. Winning a Stanley Cup does not make you more experienced or talented. Congrats to the Pens! We kicked their ass last year and they turned it around on us this year so we're even. To the Red Wings haters, us fans don't mind because we know your hate is coming from how jealous you are that our team is better than yours. That is why we can wake up tomorrow and still be happy to throw on our jerseys instead of doing what you do and throwing it in a box or hanging it in the closet until next season. the only exception I take to this ^^^^^ is when you say that if anyone thinks the Penguins have more talent than the Red wings they dont know anyting about hockey. I have played the game of ice hockey for 28 years and coached hockey for the past 15 years. The youth of the Pens and the talent of the second and third line guys for the pens was the turning point of this series. I am not going to say the Red Wings are to old but clearly a 21 year old is one or two steps faster than a 32 year old. I respect the red wings and admire all they have achieved. However the talent of Crosby and Malkin far surpasses the star players of the Red wings. The wings by far have more experience but experience only gets you so far. BTW I wear Penguin jerseys all year long, please dont label all of us. In closing be sure that before you tell someone they dont anything about hockey make sure they are not an old man that has lived his life on the ice and knows a thing or 2 about hockey. For the record I congratulated the Red Wings last year and this year for a great season and series. I am a Penguin fan but a Hockey fan first and foremost.
