I sold a MOTU figure last month and now, 26 days after the item was delivered, I have a Paypal dispute claim saying the figure was broken when he received it. It wasn't broken when I sold it or sent it. I packed it in bubblewrap and newspaper. It just seems fishy to me. He never tried to email me or message me via ebay, he just filed a claim. I'm just wondering should I escalate the claim to a dispute and have Paypal investigate or do I just refund the money and hope USPS will grant me an insurance claim on the insured item?
I've never run into this, and with this added to the super ridiculous eBay and Paypal fees and almost being forced to use Paypal, I may be done with eBay all together. Someone please help me... |

People are finding ways to beat the system. They replace your mint items with there crap and get a refund in the process.
There are ways to combat this, with a bit of tact and knowledge of the protocol, you can defend against these shady characters. |

I'd escalate. Sounds like someone wants some money in their pocket, so they're using your sale to get some change back.

I had a similar deal but I didn't lose the money they tried to get in the chargeback. Just keep all your records of the transaction and you should be fine.

I'm thinking they want there money back and its quite possible they are sending their broken crap back. From now on I'd say take pictures before you seal the box up. It was probably the mail mans fault anyway.

Personally, I'd escalate it. If he waited 26 days to file a dispute for a broken item, I think it's fairly obvious he's trying to run some kind of scam. If I buy something off of ebay (or anywhere really) and it arrives broken, I would be sending out emails within a day.
Edit: - I said it was "fairly obvious he's trying to run some kind of scam", but I suppose is IS possible that he has a good reason, it's just unlikely. Still, I would always give the seller the chance to fix the issue without immediately filing a dispute with PayPal. |

I dont know if hes trying to get money or send me his broken stuff, but he recently bought another of the same item, so maybe he broke it? Is that grounds for dispute resolution?
