I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on the Internet (aka, I just made it up) that Hanna Montana and Chris Cornell were recording a double album collaboration together and both going on tour in 2010 and during that time they will be filming a Wal-Mart exclusive DVD. -I'm pretty pumped!

well this is a touchy one for me-having been in my band now for 5 years and being in a ton of bands before that, its safe to say music is my LIFE.
I get what alot of you are saying but you have to understand that music is so personal and those who are truly passionate about it can rarely put there finger on exactly what it is that they love about a certain band. Me and my brother both grew up listening to Machine Head+ Pantera etcetera and love alot of the same bands-that doesnt stop us arguing about music more than we agree on it! Another thing that pisses people off is "FADS",right now (although it IS dying) the latest FAD is the "EMO" thing...now heres the problem-no one really knows what emo is! Emo started with hardcore bands, screaming there emotions rather than shouting them, which then became more melodic in nature-check out bands like "sunny day real estate" and later "thursday" if you want to know where Emo came from. Infortunately now-EVERYTHING gets called emo-Fall out boy are a pop punk band who get called emo,Bring me the Horizon are a grindcore/death metal band who get called emo-hell my own band has been called emo when all we are is an Alternative ROCK BAND. The music industry is always saturated with shit, but there are a few gems out there who are truly hard working songwriter+musicians playing from the heart and to me thats always more important than any amount of crap or fads. My own music taste is pretty diverse,I like everything from Roy Orbison to Decapitated, from Reo Speedwagon to Dillinger Escape plan, from Mogwai to My chemical Romance..I could go on and on! If you botherd to read this long winded post-just know that from the other side of the music industry-being in a band which has gigged its arse off and plans to do so for years to come and has taken alot of shit from the industry and quite a few knocks from people who just dont get what we do-I still have passion for music and always will!

No, people know what emo is. The problem people have with emo is the STUPID RIDICULOUS fashion that acompanies it. IT makes goths, and punks look freaking normal! And the huge amount of "emo" bands that popped up because of the fad is what sickens most people. |

Marylin Manson has always looked rediculous but that never stopped me liking his music...and if by emo you mean the skinny jeans and "sweep" hair then alot of bands in the 80's were emo too. The term is even used for kids who self harm-well thats been around for a loooong time, mostly associated with "goths" but Im sure there are plenty of people who dont even follow a certain music genre that self harm. As far as rediculous fashion goes...look at David Bowie throughout the 70s and 80s...hell just LOOK at David Bowie! lol Doesnt stop him being cool in my book,in fact i thought he looked cool in "Labrynth" when i was a kid!

Ive always hated "trendyness". I remember when girls took time to do their hair, not chop it up with ragged scisors. And marylin manson is a musical genius. like david bowie. they have left their mark, a tattoo if you will, on the arm of music. emo music has left a stain. a skid mark on the underpants of music. if you will. |

lol good analogy i suppose!
But my problem is...I KNOW what punk is,I KNOW what metal is...apart from a fashion trend and some strange mentality amongst some kids-I really dont KNOW what Emo is. I have a friend who is what i suppose people would call a "goth" and a car full of chavs threw a bottle at her and shouted "emo bitch" a couple of months back :/ As far as where the name came from "Emotional Music"...i thought almost all music was emotional!
